Intermont is a small community in Hampshire County, West Virginia, United States. It's called an unincorporated community because it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. You can find Intermont along West Virginia Route 259, right next to the Cacapon River.
About Intermont
Intermont wasn't always known by its current name. Before 1920, this community was called Mutton Run. The name changed to Intermont that year.
The new name might have come from a company called the Intermountain Construction Company. This company built the Winchester and Western Railroad from Winchester to Wardensville. Since Mutton Run was located along this railroad, it's possible the community was renamed after the company that helped connect it to other places.
Intermont used to have its own post office. However, that post office is now closed.
Hebron Church
One of the most important historic places in Intermont is the Hebron Church. This church was built a long time ago, in 1849. It is located on West Virginia Route 259. The church is a significant landmark in the community.
