International Alliance of Research Universities facts for kids
The International Alliance of Research Universities (IARU) is a special group of top universities from around the world. It started on January 14, 2006. At first, there were 10 universities. They all wanted to work together to make education better. They especially focused on teaching students who would become future leaders.
The leader of IARU is chosen from the presidents of these universities. This person serves for two years. In January 2016, the University of Cape Town joined the group. This made IARU have 11 member universities.
The presidents of these universities meet every year. They meet at one of the member universities. They talk about new projects they can do together. These projects fall into a few main areas:
- Global education projects: This includes their special Global Summer Program.
- Working together between universities: This helps the schools share ideas and resources.
- Big challenges: They work on important issues, like making university campuses more eco-friendly through their Campus Sustainability efforts.
- New research projects: They support new studies and discoveries.
