Isabela Maria Onyshko (born June 23, 1998, in Minnedosa) is a talented Canadian gymnast. She has represented her country at many big events. These include the 2016 Summer Olympics, the 2014 Commonwealth Games, and several World Championships (in 2014, 2015, and 2017). Isabela was the Canadian National Champion on the balance beam in 2014. In 2016, she won the Elite Canada competition and the National Championships in the All-Around category. This means she was the best overall gymnast in Canada that year!

Isabela Onyshko has had an exciting career in gymnastics. Let's look at some of her biggest moments.
Starting Strong: 2014 Highlights
In 2014, Isabela competed at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. Her team finished fourth, and she placed seventh in the individual all-around competition. Later that year, she went to the 2014 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in China. Her team placed 12th. Even though they didn't make the team final, their performance was good enough to qualify a full team for the next World Championships in 2015. This was a big step for Canadian gymnastics!
A Busy Year: 2015 Achievements
January 2015 was a great start for Isabela. She competed at the Elite Canada event and finished second overall. She also earned third place on both the balance beam and floor exercise.
Isabela then showed her skills at the Artistic Gymnastics World Cup in Slovenia. She won three medals there! She earned her first World Cup gold medal on the uneven bars. She also won gold on the balance beam and silver on the floor exercise. These wins showed she was becoming a top international gymnast.
In September, Isabela was chosen to be part of Canada's team for the 2015 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships. She competed with six teammates from October 23 to November 1, 2015.
Olympic Dreams: 2016 and Beyond
The year 2016 was very important for Isabela. On February 5, she won the 2016 Elite Canada competition. This was a major win for her. Later that month, she won a silver medal in the all-around at the Stuttgart World Cup.
She then went to the Olympic Test Event in Rio de Janeiro. This event was a practice run for the Olympics. Isabela placed fourth on balance beam and floor exercise. She also finished tenth in the all-around.
In June, Isabela competed at the Canadian National Championships. She performed incredibly well, beating the reigning champion, Ellie Black. Isabela won the all-around title, becoming the Canadian National Champion! She also won gold medals on the uneven bars and balance beam, and a bronze on the floor exercise. She placed fourth on vault.
After these amazing results, Isabela was chosen to represent Canada at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio. Her team finished ninth. Individually, Isabela placed 18th in the all-around. She also made it to the balance beam final, where she finished 8th. This was a historic moment! Isabela became the first Canadian gymnast to reach an Olympic balance beam final.
Recent Successes: 2018 and 2019
Isabela continued to shine in later years. At the 2018 Commonwealth Games, she helped her team win a gold medal! She also finished 8th in the all-around, 5th on uneven bars, and 4th on balance beam.
In 2019, Isabela competed at the 2019 Pan American Games. She was part of the Canadian team that won a silver medal. This shows her continued dedication and success in the sport.
