Isao Iwabuchi (岩淵 功, Iwabuchi Isao, born November 17, 1933 – died April 16, 2003) was a Japanese football player. He was a forward, which means he played in an attacking position. He was known for playing for the Japan national team.
Club Career
Isao Iwabuchi was born in Tochigi Prefecture, Japan, on November 17, 1933. He played club football for a team called Keio BRB. This team was made up of players who were students or graduates from Keio University.
While playing for Keio BRB, Iwabuchi helped his team win the Emperor's Cup twice. They won this important football tournament in both 1954 and 1956.
National Team Career
Isao Iwabuchi started playing for the Japan national team on January 5, 1955. At that time, he was still a student at Keio University. His first game for Japan was against the team from Burma.
In June 1956, Iwabuchi scored a goal during the qualification matches for the 1956 Summer Olympics. Japan was playing against South Korea. After these games, Japan qualified for the Olympics in Melbourne through a drawing of lots. Iwabuchi was chosen to be part of the Japanese Olympic team that year.
He also played for Japan at the 1958 Asian Games. In total, Isao Iwabuchi played 8 games for the Japan national team and scored 2 goals. His last game for Japan was in 1958.
Isao Iwabuchi passed away on April 16, 2003, in Tokyo, Japan. He was 69 years old.
