Following the Rules in Cycling
In sports, it's important for everyone to follow the rules. This helps keep the competition fair. Sometimes, athletes might face issues related to these rules.
Rules and Suspensions
In 2005, Isidro Nozal was suspended for two weeks. This happened because a test showed a certain level in his blood that was above the allowed limit. This test was done before a race called Dauphine Libere.
Later, in 2006, his name came up in a case about breaking cycling rules, called the Operación Puerto doping case. At first, Spanish officials said he had done nothing wrong. However, Isidro later said he had taken part in some procedures that were against the rules before the 2005 race. He stated he did not use banned substances.
Further Rule Violations
From 2008 to 2009, Isidro Nozal rode for a team called Liberty Seguros. In September 2009, it was announced that Isidro and two of his teammates, Nuno Ribeiro and Héctor Guerra, had tested positive for a banned substance called EPO-CERA. These tests were taken during the Tour of Portugal race.
Because of this, Liberty Seguros immediately stopped sponsoring the team. They also pulled out of cycling. Nuno Ribeiro's win in the Tour of Portugal was taken away. The second-placed rider, David Blanco, was then named the winner. Isidro Nozal, Nuno Ribeiro, and Héctor Guerra were all suspended from cycling for two years.
