Island Lake is a beautiful mountain lake located high up in the White Cloud Mountains in Idaho, United States. It's part of the amazing Sawtooth National Recreation Area, a special place known for its stunning natural beauty. This lake is a type of glacial lake, which means it was formed a very long time ago by huge moving sheets of ice called glaciers.
About Island Lake
Island Lake is found in Custer County, Idaho. It sits at a high elevation of about 2,525 meters (or 8,284 feet) above sea level. The lake is about 400 meters (1,312 feet) long and 125 meters (410 feet) wide.
Location and Features
You can find Island Lake southwest of a mountain called D. O. Lee Peak. It's also southwest of another lake named Goat Lake. Even though they are close, they are in different water systems.
One cool thing about Island Lake is that it has a small island! This island is located near the eastern side of the lake.
How to Visit Island Lake
If you want to visit Island Lake, you can reach it by hiking. The lake is inside the Sawtooth National Forest. You can get there by following trail 806. This trail offers a great way to explore the beautiful natural area around the lake.
