Islip Terrace is a small community in Suffolk County, New York. It's located on the South Shore of Long Island, which is a large island in New York State. This area is known as a hamlet and a census-designated place (CDP). A CDP is a special area the government defines for counting people. In 2020, about 5,323 people lived here. Islip Terrace was once known by a different name: Germantown.

History of Islip Terrace
Islip Terrace has an interesting past!
Early Development
Back in 1914, a real estate agent from New York City started building homes. These houses were built in the woods between East Islip and Central Islip State Hospital. Many people who worked at the nearby hospital decided to live in these new houses.
Name Change from Germantown
The area was first named Germantown. This name was chosen to attract people of German heritage to move there. However, during World War I, when Germany was involved in the war, the name was changed. People decided to rename it Islip Terrace instead.

They have done very well in football, bowling, baseball, softball, and lacrosse.
