About Ismael Saz
Ismael Saz was born in 1952 in the city of Valencia, Spain. He studied at the University of Valencia, where he earned his PhD in 1986. A PhD is a very high university degree. His main research for this degree was about the connections between Italy and Spain, especially before Italy became involved in the Spanish Civil War.
Professor Saz has written a lot about the Francoist regime, which was the government of Spain under General Franco. He describes it as a "fascistised dictatorship," meaning it had many features similar to a fascist government. He has also explored the different ideas and groups within that government, including those with strong nationalist beliefs. Since 2002, he has been a full professor of Contemporary History at the University of Valencia.
