Itauguá is a lively city in the Central Department of Paraguay. It was founded a long time ago, in 1728. The city is famous for its special lacemaking called ñandutí and its wonderful music.
You can visit the San Rafael Museum in Itauguá. It shows many interesting items from the Colonial Age. The National Hospital, a very important health center, is also located here.
Itauguá is about 30 kilometers (18 miles) away from Asunción, the capital city. Governor Martín de Barúa officially founded Itauguá on June 27, 1728.

History of Itauguá
The city center still shows buildings from the Colonial Age. These old buildings tell stories of the past.
The name "Itauguá" comes from the Ytay stream. This stream flows through the land. In the Guaraní language, "ita" means "stone." The word "gua" means "belonging to." So, Itauguá means "place belonging to the stone" or "place of the stones."
Today, Itauguá is known as the "City of the Ñandutí." This is because of its main art form. Ñandutí is a special type of lace. It looks a lot like a spider's web.
One of the biggest cultural events is the "Ñandutí Festival." This festival has been happening every year for over 30 years. It brings in many people. The first festival was in June 1970. Famous artists like Juan Cancio Barreto and Quemil Yambay have performed there.
The city has a good supply of clean drinking water. It also has a sports center called "Dr. Nicolás Léoz" for different sports.
