Ito Curata (born November 2, 1959 – died March 26, 2020) was a famous fashion designer from the Philippines. He was known for creating beautiful wedding gowns and special Filipiniana clothing. Many important people wore his designs, including Hollywood actress Sharon Stone and former Philippine president Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.

Early Life and Schooling
Ito Mendoza Curata was born in Manila, Philippines, on November 2, 1959. He grew up in Batangas City. He studied Fine Arts at the University of the Philippines for one year.
When he was 17, in 1977, he moved to the United States. He received a scholarship to Clarion University of Pennsylvania. However, he found their fine arts program was too small. So, he decided to move to San Francisco. There, he studied at the University of San Francisco and earned a degree in fine arts. He also got a certificate from the Academy of Art University.
After college, Curata worked as a banker for a short time. During this period, he would sometimes make gowns for his friends. After a few years, he decided to follow his dream of becoming a full-time fashion designer.

Ito Curata lived in San Francisco, USA, for 26 years. While there, he had his own design studio, called an atelier. He created clothes for well-known people like actress Sharon Stone. He was the first Filipino-American designer to be featured by Hollywood news.
In the early 2000s, Curata and his partner, Robert Miller, moved back to the Philippines. Curata continued to design for many important people in the Philippines. His clients included former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and Filipino actress Bea Alonzo.
In 2016, he received the "Men Who Matter" award from People Asia magazine. In 2019, he was honored as an "Outstanding Citizen" in Batangas. His designs were also shown at the first Miss Universe Philippines fashion show in 2019. Curata also sometimes judged beauty pageants and made gowns for contestants.
Later Life and Passing
In March 2020, Ito Curata and his partner, Robert Miller, were taken to the hospital. They had symptoms of COVID-19. Both were admitted to the Intensive Care Unit.
Ito Curata passed away on March 26, 2020. His death was caused by pneumonia, which was a complication from a COVID-19 infection, and kidney failure.

Ito Curata was known for being a wonderful host and a great cook. He also enjoyed collecting art. He had many paintings and decorative fans that he displayed in his home. He also collected many art and design books for his personal library.
