Jürgen Dieter Paul Schmude (born June 9, 1936 – died February 3, 2025) was an important German politician. He was a member of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD), which is one of Germany's main political parties.

Schmude served in the German Parliament, called the Bundestag, for many years. He was a member of parliament from 1969 to 1994. He also held several important jobs as a minister in the German government, helping to lead different parts of the country.

Early Life and Education

Jürgen Schmude was born in a place called Insterburg, which was then part of East Prussia, Germany. Today, this area is known as Chernyakhovsk in Russia.

He studied at several universities, including the University of Göttingen, the University of Berlin, the University of Bonn, and the University of Cologne. He became a Jurist, which means he was an expert in law.

Schmude's political journey began when he joined the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD). This party is known for its focus on social justice and workers' rights.

Serving in the Bundestag
