John Ryan Fitzpatrick, known as J. R. Fitzpatrick, is a Canadian professional stock car racing driver. He was born on May 9, 1988. Fitzpatrick made history as the youngest driver to win the CASCAR Super Series championship. He achieved this amazing feat in 2006 when he was just 18 years old.

Early Racing Days

J. R. Fitzpatrick grew up in Cambridge, Ontario. He started racing karts when he was only six years old. He quickly moved up to the junior ranks of the Canadian Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (CASCAR). By the time he was 13, he was already racing Late Model stock cars.

In 2004, at age 16, Fitzpatrick raced in the CASCAR Super Series. This series is now known as the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series. He finished 11th overall and was second in the Rookie of the Year standings. The next year, at 17, he earned his first win. He also had three top-five finishes and five top-10 finishes.

When he turned 18, Fitzpatrick became the youngest driver to win the Canadian Tire Series National Champion title. He won one race, had five podium finishes (meaning he finished in the top three), and earned two pole awards (starting from the very front).

Racing Career Highlights

NASCAR Canadian Tire Series

After NASCAR bought CASCAR, Fitzpatrick continued to race his father's No. 84 Chevrolet. In 2007, he had a great year with sponsorship from Milwaukee Tools. He won two races, finished in the top five four times, and in the top 10 seven times. He also earned three pole awards.

In 2008, he won one race at Mosport and had five top-five finishes. He also earned two pole awards. In 2009, he raced part-time and won at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, leading the most laps.

Fitzpatrick returned to full-time racing in 2010 with Schick as his sponsor. He won races at Mosport and Edmonton. He battled for the points lead with D. J. Kennington and finished second overall. He raced again in 2011, finishing third in the points standings. In 2012, he won the first race of the season at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. He also won the big race in Montreal and finished second in points again.

Nationwide Series

Fitzpatrick made his first big NASCAR appearance in the Busch Series race in Mexico City in 2007. He finished 33rd in that race. Later that year, he finished 43rd in the NASCAR Busch Series race in Montreal. He said he was "very tired" after winning a Canadian Tire Series race at the same track earlier that day.

In 2009, he drove the famous No. 4 KHI Chevy in two road course races. He finished 19th at Watkins Glen. In Montreal, he was on track for a top-10 finish but went off course.

In 2010, J.R. drove for Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s No. 7 team in all three road course races. He earned his first Nationwide top-10 finish, coming in 7th at Road America. He also finished 7th in Montreal. Fitzpatrick returned to the Nationwide Series in 2011 with Baker Curb Racing and Schick sponsorship. He later competed in six more races for Go Canada Racing.

Camping World Truck Series

On February 13, 2009, Fitzpatrick had a strong performance in the Camping World Truck Series. He finished fourth in his No. 7 Mammoet Chevrolet Silverado at Daytona International Speedway. This was his third race in the series, and he led 17 laps.

After racing at Martinsville, his deal with Kevin Buckler at TRG Motorsports ended. He then drove several races for Kevin Harvick, Inc. and Chase Mattioli in 2009 and 2011. He was set to race full-time in 2012 for Turn One Racing, but he left the team after the first two races.
