Early Life and College
J. R. Pinnock was born in Fort Hood, Texas. He went to high school in two different places. First, he attended Coastal Christian Academy in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Later, he went to Eagle's Landing High School in McDonough, Georgia.
After high school, Pinnock went to George Washington University. He played college basketball there from 2003 to 2006. In his last season (2005–06), he was the top scorer for his team. He helped his team reach the NCAA tournament twice. This is a big tournament for college basketball teams.
Professional Basketball Career
NBA Draft and Early Teams
In 2006, J. R. Pinnock decided to enter the 2006 NBA draft. He was chosen by the Dallas Mavericks as the 58th pick overall. This meant he was one of the players picked to join an NBA team.
After being drafted, he was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers. He played in seven pre-season games for the Lakers. However, he did not make the final team roster.
Pinnock then played for teams in other countries. He played some games in Germany for the Giessen 46ers. After that, he returned to the United States. He joined the Arkansas RimRockers in the D-League. The D-League is like a minor league for the NBA. In September 2007, he was the first player picked in the D-League Expansion Draft by the Rio Grande Valley Vipers.
Playing in Puerto Rico
J. R. Pinnock also played in Puerto Rico's professional basketball league, called BSN (Baloncesto Superior Nacional). He found great success there.
He won his first professional championship with the Capitanes de Arecibo team in 2010. The team was so good that they won the championship again in 2011! Pinnock was a key player in these victories. He played for Capitanes de Arecibo for several years.
International Play
Throughout his career, Pinnock played for many teams outside the United States. He played in Greece for Colossus Rhodes BC. He also played in Venezuela for teams like Marinos de Anzoátegui and Bucaneros de La Guaira.
Pinnock also played in Israel for teams like Barak Netanya and Habik'a. He spent time playing in Argentina for Libertad Sunchales. His career also took him to Mexico with Halcones Rojos Veracruz and the Dominican Republic with Titanes del Distrito Nacional and Huracanes del Atlántico.
