Jack Guy Lafontant (born 4 April 1961) is a Haitian politician. He served as the Prime Minister of Haiti from March 21, 2017, until September 16, 2018. This was his first major role in politics.

Jack Guy Lafontant's Early Life and Studies
Jack Guy Lafontant studied medicine at the State University of Haiti. He became a doctor, specializing in how the stomach and intestines work (gastroenterology) and general internal medicine. He also taught at a university.
He was a member of the Haitian Medical Association. He also joined the American College of Gastroenterology, which is a group for doctors who specialize in digestive health.
Jack Guy Lafontant's Career in Public Service
Before becoming Prime Minister, Jack Guy Lafontant was involved in community work. He was a member of the Rotary Club in Pétion-Ville, a city near Port-au-Prince. In 2016, he was the president of this group.
Becoming Prime Minister of Haiti
On February 22, 2017, Jack Guy Lafontant was chosen to be the Prime Minister of Haiti. This was a big step for him, as it was his first time holding a major political position.
He then put together his team of government ministers, known as his cabinet, on March 13, 2017. For his government to start working, it needed approval from Haiti's parliament.
Gaining Trust from Parliament
First, the Senate, which is one part of Haiti's parliament, voted to approve his government on March 16. Then, the Chamber of Deputies, the other part of parliament, also voted yes on March 21. They gave him 95 votes in favor, with only 6 against and 2 people not voting.
Because he received these votes of confidence, Jack Guy Lafontant officially started his job as Prime Minister on the same day, March 21, 2017.
Resignation from Office
In July 2018, there were large protests in Haiti. People were upset about a government plan to increase the price of fuel. Because of these protests, Jack Guy Lafontant announced on July 14, 2018, that he had decided to resign from his position.
President Moïse accepted his resignation. Jack Guy Lafontant continued to serve as a caretaker Prime Minister for a short time until a new leader could be chosen. His term officially ended on September 16, 2018.
