Jafar Hassan, born in 1968, is an important politician from Jordan. He became the Prime Minister of Jordan in September 2024. Before that, he worked as a diplomat for Jordan and was a top advisor to King Abdullah II.
Early Life and Education
Jafar Hassan was born in 1968. He studied at several well-known universities. He earned a bachelor's degree from the American University in Paris. He also has master's degrees from Harvard University and Boston University.
Later, he earned a special diploma and a PhD in Political Sciences and International Economics. He received these advanced degrees from the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva. In 2020, he received an award from Japan. This award, called the Gold and Silver Star of Japan's Order of the Rising Sun, was given to him for helping to make the relationship between Jordan and Japan stronger.
His Career Journey
Jafar Hassan started working for Jordan's foreign service in 1991. This means he worked as a diplomat, representing Jordan in other countries. He worked in cities like Washington D.C. in the United States and Geneva in Switzerland.
From 2006 to 2009, he led the International Affairs Department at the Royal Hashemite Court. This is the main office that helps the King of Jordan. In 2009, he was chosen to be the Minister of Planning and International Cooperation. He held this important job until 2013.
In 2014, he became the chief of staff for King Abdullah II's office. This made him a very close advisor to the King. In 2018, he was named deputy prime minister for economic affairs. His job was to help improve Jordan's economy and reduce the country's public debt. In 2021, he returned to lead the King's office once again.
Becoming Prime Minister
On September 15, 2024, King Abdullah II chose Jafar Hassan to be the new Prime Minister of Jordan. He took over from the previous Prime Minister, Bisher Khasawneh. This change happened after the 2024 election in Jordan.
