Bisher Khasawneh (Arabic: بشر الخصاونة; born January 27, 1969) is a well-known politician and diplomat from Jordan. He served as the 43rd Prime Minister of Jordan and also as the Minister of Defence. He held these important roles from October 12, 2020, to September 15, 2024.
Before becoming Prime Minister, Khasawneh worked as an ambassador for Jordan in many countries. These included Egypt, France, Kenya, and Ethiopia. He also represented Jordan at international organizations like the African Union and UNESCO. He was also a key adviser to King Abdullah II.

Early Life and Education
Bisher Khasawneh was born on January 27, 1969, in Amman, the capital city of Jordan. He studied law and international affairs at several famous universities.
His education includes:
- A Bachelor's degree in Law from the University of Jordan.
- An Executive Diploma in public policies from Harvard University's Kennedy School.
- A Master of Arts in International Affairs, Diplomacy, and Economics from SOAS, University of London.
- A Master of Laws (LLM) in International Law and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Law from the London School of Economics.
Important Roles and Career
Khasawneh has had a long and active career in public service. He has held many important positions in Jordan and around the world.
Diplomatic Work
From June 2012 to September 2016, Khasawneh served as Jordan's ambassador to Egypt. This role involved representing Jordan's interests and building good relationships with Egypt. He also gave a speech at the United Nations General Assembly in October 2004. Later, on August 31, 2018, he became Jordan's Ambassador to France.
Government Positions
Khasawneh also held several ministerial positions within the Jordanian government.
- From September 2016 to January 2017, he was the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs. In this role, he helped manage Jordan's relationships with other countries.
- From January 2017 to February 2018, he served as the Minister of State for Legal Affairs. This job involved working on legal matters for the government.
Advising the King
King Abdullah II appointed Khasawneh to important advisory roles:
- From April 2019 to August 2020, he was an adviser for Communication and Coordination to the King.
- From August 2020 until he became Prime Minister, he advised the King on important policies.
Prime Minister of Jordan
On October 8, 2020, King Abdullah II appointed Bisher Khasawneh as the Prime Minister of Jordan. The King asked him to focus on improving the country's response to the COVID-19 pandemic in Jordan. He was also responsible for overseeing the parliamentary elections in November 2020.
His cabinet, which is the group of ministers who help run the government, was sworn in on October 12, 2020. As Prime Minister, Khasawneh also served as the Minister of Defence. He aimed to improve Jordan's economy and strengthen its public safety net. In January 2021, he announced that Jordan would receive millions of doses of COVID-19 vaccine from companies like BioNTech/Pfizer and through the COVAX initiative.
