Jagat Prakash Nadda (born 2 December 1960) is an Indian lawyer and politician. He currently serves as the Minister of Health and the Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizers since 2024. He is also the 11th President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) since 2020. He is a member of the Rajya Sabha, representing Gujarat since 2024.
Nadda is an important leader in the BJP and works closely with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Before becoming the party president, he was the BJP's working president from 2019 to 2020. From 2014 to 2019, he was the Minister of Health and Family Welfare in the first government led by Prime Minister Modi. He also served as the Parliamentary Board Secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Earlier in his career, Nadda was a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh. He served two terms: from 2007 to 2012, and from 1993 to 2003. He also held ministerial positions in the Himachal Pradesh Government. These included Minister of Forest, Environment, Science, and Technology (2007-2012) and Minister of Health and Family Welfare and Parliamentary Affairs (1998-2003).

About J.P. Nadda's Life
Jagat Prakash Nadda was born on 2 December 1960 in Patna, Bihar. His parents are Narain Lall Nadda and Krishna Nadda. His family originally comes from Himachal Pradesh. He has a brother named Jagat Bhushan Nadda.
Nadda went to St. Xavier's School, Patna. He earned his Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree from Patna College, Patna University. Later, he studied law and received his LL.B. degree from the Faculty of Law, Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla. When he was a child, he represented Bihar in a national swimming competition held in Delhi.
Nadda married Mallika Nadda (whose maiden name was Banerjee) on 11 December 1991. They have two sons. His mother-in-law, Jayashree Banerjee, was also a politician who was elected to the Lok Sabha in 1999.
J.P. Nadda's Political Journey
Early Steps in State Politics
Nadda began his political career by being elected to the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly in 1993. He represented the Bilaspur area. He was re-elected in 1998.
During his first term (1994-1998), he was the leader of his party's group in the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly. He then became the Minister of Health and Family Welfare and Parliamentary Affairs in the government led by Prem Kumar Dhumal. Nadda did not win his seat in the 2003 election.
He was elected again in the 2007 elections. When Prem Kumar Dhumal formed the government, Nadda joined his cabinet. He served as the cabinet minister for Forest, Environment, Science, and Technology from 2008 to 2010.
Moving to National Politics
In 2012, Nadda decided not to run for re-election to the state assembly. Instead, he was elected to the Rajya Sabha, which is the Indian Parliament's upper house, representing Himachal Pradesh.
Becoming President of the BJP
In June 2019, Nadda was chosen as the national working president of the BJP. On 20 January 2020, he was unanimously elected as the BJP National President. He took over this important role from Amit Shah.
In January 2021, Nadda launched a new program called Ek Muthi Chaawal Yojana in Bardhaman, West Bengal. In September 2022, his term as party chief was extended until the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
On 4 March 2024, he resigned from his position as a member of the Rajya Sabha from Himachal Pradesh. He was then elected without opposition to the Rajya Sabha from Gujarat and took his oath on 6 April 2024.
Minister in Modi's Third Government
On 11 June 2024, Mr. Nadda took on two important roles in the government. He became the Minister of Health and Family Welfare and also the Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizers.
