Jagoda Kaloper (born June 19, 1947 – died October 1, 2016) was a talented artist from Croatia. She was known for her work as a visual artist, a filmmaker, and an actress in many movies from the former Yugoslav cinema.

About Her Life

Jagoda Kaloper was born in Zagreb, which was then part of Yugoslavia. She started acting in movies without any training! Her first film was The Key in 1965. After that, she appeared in many other films. Some of these include Monday or Tuesday (1966) and Handcuffs (1969). She became famous around the world for her role in the 1971 film WR: Mysteries of the Organism.

Besides acting, Jagoda was also a writer and an artist. She finished her studies at the Zagreb Academy of Fine Arts in 1970. In the same year, she joined the Croatian Association of Artists. She also had her first art show, called Neimenovani ambijent ("Unnamed Ambient"), in Zagreb.

In the early 1970s, she took part in many art shows. These often included performances and public art events. For example, her work Bez naslova ("Untitled") was shown in Karlovac. She also participated in important group exhibitions. One was "Documents on Post-Object Phenomena in Yugoslav Art" in Belgrade in 1973. Another was the "New Tendencies" exhibition in Zagreb in 1978.

Jagoda also used her artistic skills for graphic design. She created designs for magazines, books, posters, and art events. In 1979, she redesigned the Gordogan magazine. She also worked for a publishing house called Školska knjiga ("A School's Book"). There, she designed and illustrated a children's book and a record for a radio show called Tonkica Palonkica frrr. She also designed a children's book called Jooj! in 1986.

Later in her life, Jagoda appeared in a few smaller film and TV roles. However, she mostly focused on her art. She loved painting, making sculptures, and creating films.

In 2010, Jagoda Kaloper wrote and directed her own art film. It was called Žena u ogledalu ("Woman in the Mirror"). This film was like a collage. It used clips from movies she had acted in. It also showed parts of her everyday life. She filmed these with a small digital camera on reflective surfaces. The film explored ideas about who we are, growing up, getting older, and being a woman. In 2011, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Zagreb bought her film. It was also shown at the Pula Film Festival and the Trieste Film Festival.

In 2013, an art historian named Leonida Kovač wrote a book about Jagoda's film. It was called U zrcalu kulturalnog ekrana: Jagoda Kaloper In the Mirror of the Cultural Screen: Jagoda Kaloper.

Jagoda Kaloper was married to an architect named Radovan Tajder. They had a daughter together, who is now an author named Ana Tajder.

Jagoda passed away in Vienna on October 1, 2016.
