Even though he is tall, Jaime often played as an open forward or a winger. He was very skilled with the ball and fast. He liked to run to the sides of the field where there was more space to move.
Playing for Manta and Emelec's Success
In 2009, Jaime was loaned to Manta to get more playing time and experience. He played well, scoring 7 goals in 32 matches in the Ecuadorian league.
The next season, Emelec's new manager, Jorge Sampaoli, saw Jaime's talent. Sampaoli asked for Jaime to stay with the team in 2010. Jaime quickly became the first-choice forward. He scored many important goals, helping Emelec win the first part of the 2010 Ecuadorian tournament. This led them to the final match in December 2010.

Time with Club Tijuana and LDU Quito
After recovering from his injury, Jaime signed with the Mexican club Xolos de Tijuana. However, he was immediately loaned to the Ecuadorian team LDU Quito for a full season to regain his form.
Loan to LDU Quito
At LDU Quito, Jaime wore the number 11 jersey. He scored his first goals for the team in August 2013. He continued to score throughout the season, including two goals in a 3–1 win over Deportivo Quevedo.
