Jaime Serra (artist) facts for kids
Jaume Serra was a talented painter from Catalonia, a region in Spain. He lived a long time ago, in the 1300s and early 1400s. Jaume was part of a famous family of artists. His paintings were influenced by a special style from Siena, a city in Italy.

About Jaume Serra
Jaume Serra belonged to a family of artists. They were very active in Catalonia during the 1300s. His brothers, Pere Serra, Francesc, and Joan, were also painters. They all worked in a style called "Italo-Gothic." This style was popular in Italy and combined older art with new ideas.
The Serra brothers had a unique way of painting people. They often painted figures with tiny, slanted eyes and small mouths. Jaume Serra painted a famous work called Madonna of Humility. He also worked with his brothers on a large altarpiece. This altarpiece was for the Monastery of Santa María de Sigena. Today, you can see parts of it in the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya in Barcelona.
Famous Artworks
Many of Jaume Serra's artworks are still around today. Two of his altarpieces are kept in the Museum of Zaragoza. One shows The Virgin from a convent. The other is called Martin de Alpartil or The Resurrection. It even includes a portrait of a friar who helped pay for the art.
Another important altarpiece is from the Shrine of Our Lady of Tobed, also in Zaragoza. Jaume Serra worked on this piece between 1356 and 1359. The main part shows the Virgin of Tobed. It features the Virgin Mary and Child. It also shows Henry II of Castile, who would later become king, as a donor.
This altarpiece also has two side panels. These panels are painted with a special paint called tempera. They are dedicated to Mary Magdalene and John the Baptist. Their stories are told in different sections. For a long time, parts of this altarpiece were separated. The Museo del Prado in Madrid had the two side panels. But in 2013, the main panel was given to the museum. This meant the entire altarpiece could be put back together again.
Jaume Serra also created an altarpiece called The Holy Spirit. You can find this beautiful artwork in the Manresa cathedral.
