Jake Wheatley Jr. is an American politician who served in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. He represented the 19th district, which includes many neighborhoods in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. These areas include the Hill District, North Side, South Side, Allentown, Hazelwood, Downtown Pittsburgh, The Bluff, Knoxville, Beltzhoover, Manchester, Arlington, Arlington Heights, and parts of Oakland.

Early Life and Education
Jake Wheatley Jr. was born on December 23, 1971. He went to North Carolina A&T State University and earned a bachelor's degree in Political Science. This field of study is about how governments work. Later, he attended the University of Pittsburgh and received a master's degree in Public Administration. This degree focuses on managing public services.
Before his political career, Wheatley served in the United States Marine Corps. He was a Marine from 1989 to 1992. During his time in the military, he served in Operation Desert Storm. He received several awards for his service, including the Combat Action Ribbon, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Southwest Asia Service Medal.
Political Career and Public Service
From 1998 to 2000, Jake Wheatley Jr. worked as an executive assistant for Sala Udin. Sala Udin was a member of the Pittsburgh City Council. The City Council helps make decisions for the city.
In 2002, Wheatley ran for a seat in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. He won the election and began serving the 19th Legislative District. He was a member of the House from January 7, 2003, until January 31, 2022.
During his time in the House, Wheatley held important roles. He was the Majority Chairman of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Education. This committee helps decide how money is spent on schools. He also chaired the Health and Human Services Subcommittee on Health. This committee focuses on health-related issues.
Wheatley also served on the Education and Transportation committees. He was the Vice Chair for the Pennsylvania Legislative Black Caucus. This group works on issues important to Black communities. He also served as a Deputy Majority Whip for the House Democratic Caucus.
In 2013, Wheatley ran for Mayor of Pittsburgh. He sought the Democratic nomination in the primary election. He finished third in that race.
After leaving the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, Wheatley continued his public service. In February 2022, he became the Chief of Staff for Pittsburgh mayor Ed Gainey. As Chief of Staff, he helps manage the mayor's office and its daily operations.
