Jakup Krasniqi was born on January 1, 1951. He is a politician from Kosovo. He served as the temporary leader, or acting President of Kosovo, from 2010 to 2011. He was also the Speaker of the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo from 2007 to 2014.

Early Life and Education
Jakup Krasniqi was born in a place called Negroc, in Drenas, which was part of Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia at the time. This area is now known as Glogovac, in Kosovo.
He went to primary school in Negroc from 1957 to 1965. Then, he attended secondary school in Pristina from 1966 to 1971. He studied at the Philological Faculty from 1972 to 1976. Later, he continued his studies at the University of Pristina from 1995 to 1997.
Career in Public Service
Teaching and Education Leadership
Krasniqi worked as a teacher in Fatos and Arllat from 1972 to 1977. He also taught in Drenas from 1976 to 1977. Later, he taught in Arrlat and Skenderaj from 1979 to 1981. He returned to teaching in Drenas from 1995 to 1998. During this time, from 1995 to 1998, he was also the head of the Education Council in Drenas.
Military Role
From 1998 to 1999, Jakup Krasniqi served as a spokesperson. He worked at the main office of the Kosovo Liberation Army.
Political Journey
From 1973 to 1981, Krasniqi was part of a political group called the Kosovo National Movement. This group was not officially allowed at the time. Because of his political activities, he was held in prison from 1981 to 1999.
From 1992 to 1998, Krasniqi was a member of the Parliament of Kosova. He then became the general secretary of the Democratic Party of Kosovo from 1998 to 2003.
In the 2001 Kosovan parliamentary election, Krasniqi won a seat in the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo. He was chosen again in the 2004 Kosovan parliamentary election and the 2007 Kosovan parliamentary election.
He served as the Minister for Reconstruction and Development from 1999 to 2000. Later, he was the Minister of Public Services from 2002 to 2004.
When Fatmir Sejdiu stepped down, Krasniqi became the temporary president. This was from September 27, 2010, to February 22, 2011. He served as acting president again for a short time. This second period was from April 1 to April 7, 2011. This happened after President Behgjet Pacolli resigned.
Personal Life
Jakup Krasniqi is a father of four children. He is able to speak English, Croatian, and Serbian.
