Jamaal Dane Magloire (born May 21, 1978) is a Canadian former professional basketball player. He is currently a basketball development consultant and community ambassador for the Toronto Raptors. Jamaal played for 12 seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played for teams like the Charlotte Hornets, New Orleans Hornets, Milwaukee Bucks, Portland Trail Blazers, New Jersey Nets, Dallas Mavericks, Miami Heat, and Toronto Raptors.
Magloire is 6 ft 11 in (2.11 m) (about 2.11 meters) tall and played as a center. The Charlotte Hornets picked him 19th overall in the 2000 NBA draft. In 2004, he was chosen for the NBA All-Star Game. This made him only the second Canadian player to become an NBA All-Star.

Early Life and High School Basketball
Jamaal Magloire was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. His parents were immigrants from Trinidad and Tobago. He grew up in the Scarborough area of Toronto.
He went to Eastern Commerce Collegiate Institute for high school. There, he was a star basketball player. He led his school's boys' basketball team to win two provincial championships in a row. These wins happened in 1995 and 1996.
College Basketball Career
In 1996, Magloire went to the University of Kentucky. He quickly showed his talent. In 1997, he was named to the SEC All-Freshman team. The SEC stands for the Southeastern Conference, which is a group of college sports teams.
As a sophomore, he helped the Kentucky Wildcats win the national championship in 1998. He started 12 games that season. In his final year, he was chosen for the first-team All-SEC. He became Kentucky's all-time leader in blocked shots with 268. His strong play earned him the nickname "Big Cat."
NBA Career Highlights
Starting with the Hornets (2000–2005)
The Charlotte Hornets drafted Jamaal Magloire in 2000. For his first two seasons, he played as a reserve player. He averaged 6.5 points per game.
In the 2002–03 season, the Hornets moved to New Orleans. Magloire became a starter, playing in all 82 games. He averaged 10.3 points and 8.8 rebounds per game.
The 2003–04 season was his best. He started all 82 games again. He averaged 13.6 points and 10.3 rebounds per game. He was selected for the 2004 NBA All-Star Game. He was the second Canadian to be an NBA All-Star, after Steve Nash. In the All-Star game, Magloire led the Eastern All-Stars with 19 points.
Playing for the Milwaukee Bucks (2005–2006)
On October 26, 2005, Magloire was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks. He continued to play well for them. On January 21, 2006, he had a career-high 22 rebounds in a game. He also scored 13 points in that win against the Charlotte Bobcats.
Time with the Portland Trail Blazers (2006–2007)
In July 2006, Magloire was traded to the Portland Trail Blazers. His playing time and scoring decreased with this team. He averaged 21 minutes per game, down from 30 minutes in previous seasons. He became a free agent after this season.
Short Stays with Nets and Mavericks (2007–2008)
The New Jersey Nets signed Magloire in July 2007. He played less for them, averaging only 1.8 points per game. The Nets waived him in February 2008.
Soon after, the Dallas Mavericks signed him. He joined them to help their team at the center position.
Joining the Miami Heat (2008–2011)
Magloire signed with the Miami Heat in August 2008. He brought experience and depth to their center position. He even started some games for the Heat.
The Heat re-signed him for the 2009–10 and 2010–11 seasons. He was known for being a tough player for the team. In 2011, the Heat made it to the 2011 NBA Finals. They lost to the Dallas Mavericks in six games.
Playing for His Hometown Team: Toronto Raptors (2011–2012)
On December 9, 2011, Magloire signed a one-year deal with the Toronto Raptors. This was special because it was his hometown team. He became the first Canadian-born player to play for the Raptors, which is Canada's only NBA team.
He re-signed with the Raptors in September 2012 but was waived a month later. His last NBA game was on April 26, 2012. He started that game for the Raptors and helped them win against the New Jersey Nets.
