Jamaal Dane Magloire (born May 21, 1978) is a Canadian former professional basketball player. He is now a basketball development consultant and community ambassador for the Toronto Raptors. He played 12 seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played for teams like the Charlotte Hornets, New Orleans Hornets, Milwaukee Bucks, and Miami Heat.
Jamaal Magloire was a tall player, standing 6 feet 11 inches (2.11 meters) tall. He played as a center. The Charlotte Hornets chose him as the 19th pick in the 2000 NBA draft. In 2004, he was picked for the NBA All-Star Game. He was only the second Canadian player ever to become an NBA All-Star.

Early Life and High School Basketball
Jamaal Magloire was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. His parents came from Trinidad and Tobago. He grew up in the Scarborough area of Toronto.
He went to high school at Eastern Commerce Collegiate Institute. There, he was a star basketball player. He helped his school's team win two Ontario provincial championships in a row in 1995 and 1996.
College Career at Kentucky
In 1996, Magloire went to the University of Kentucky. He quickly showed his talent and was named to the SEC All-Freshman team in 1997. The SEC is a major college sports conference.
As a second-year student, he helped the Kentucky Wildcats win the national championship in 1998. He started 12 games that season. By his final year, he was a top player in the SEC.
Magloire became Kentucky's all-time leader in blocked shots, with 268 blocks. Because of his strong play, he earned the nickname "Big Cat."
NBA Career Highlights
Starting with the Hornets (2000–2005)
The Charlotte Hornets drafted Jamaal Magloire in 2000. For his first two seasons, he was a reserve player, meaning he came off the bench. He averaged about 6.5 points per game.
In the 2002–03 season, the Hornets moved to New Orleans. Magloire became a starter, playing in all 82 games. He averaged 10.3 points and 8.8 rebounds per game.
The 2003–04 season was his best. He started all 82 games again, averaging 13.6 points and 10.3 rebounds. He was chosen for the Eastern Conference All-Star Team. He was the second Canadian to be an NBA All-Star, after Steve Nash. In the All-Star game, he led his team with 19 points and 8 rebounds.
Time with the Milwaukee Bucks (2005–2006)
In October 2005, Magloire was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks. He continued to be a strong rebounder for the team. On January 21, 2006, he had a career-high 22 rebounds in a game against the Charlotte Bobcats. He also scored 13 points in that game.
Playing for the Portland Trail Blazers (2006–2007)
In July 2006, Magloire was traded to the Portland Trail Blazers. While he had averaged almost 10 points per game in his career, his scoring dropped with the Trail Blazers. He played fewer minutes, averaging 21 minutes per game. He became a free agent after this season.
Short Stays with Nets and Mavericks (2007–2008)
The New Jersey Nets signed Magloire in July 2007. He played less during the 2007–08 season, averaging 1.8 points and 3.4 rebounds. The Nets later released him.
Soon after, in February 2008, the Dallas Mavericks signed him. He joined the team to help support their main center.
Years with the Miami Heat (2008–2011)
Magloire signed with the Miami Heat in August 2008. He brought valuable experience and depth to the team's center position. He sometimes started games for the Heat.
The Heat re-signed him for the 2009–10 and 2010–11 seasons. He was known as a tough player who helped protect his teammates. In 2011, the Heat made it to the 2011 NBA Finals, but they lost to the Dallas Mavericks.
Returning Home to the Toronto Raptors (2011–2012)
On December 9, 2011, Magloire signed a one-year deal with his hometown team, the Toronto Raptors. This was a special moment because he became the first Canadian-born player to play for the Raptors, Canada's only NBA team.
He re-signed with the Raptors in September 2012 but was later released. After being waived by the Raptors, he did not play in the NBA again. His last NBA game was on April 26, 2012.
Post-Playing Career
After his playing career, Jamaal Magloire continued to be involved in basketball. On November 18, 2012, the Toronto Raptors hired him. His new role is a basketball development consultant and community ambassador.
In this job, Magloire helps the Raptors' coaches train players to improve their skills. He also represents the team at community events throughout the year.
