Jamal Yaseem Igle is a talented American comic book artist. He also works as an editor, art director, and even creates storyboards for animated shows. He is famous for creating the comic series Molly Danger. You might also know his art from popular comics like Supergirl, The Ray, and Firestorm. He often draws, inks, and colors these comics himself.

Jamal decided he wanted to draw comics professionally when he was just 14 years old. At 17, while still in high school, he got his first job as an intern at DC Comics. An intern is someone who works to gain experience. He later studied art at the School of Visual Arts. His art education focused on classic illustrators like Norman Rockwell.

After college, Jamal worked in advertising and marketing. His first big break as an artist came in 1993 with a company called Majestic Entertainment. He worked for smaller publishers for several years. Around 1999, he took a break from comics. He went to work at Sony Animation.

At Sony, Jamal became a storyboard artist for CGI animated shows. These included Max Steel and Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles. A storyboard artist draws pictures that show how a scene will look. While at Sony, he got a call from Marvel Comics. They wanted him to work on New Warriors. He has been working in comics ever since.

Jamal has worked on many different comic books. These include The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass and Race Against Time. He also worked on popular titles like Green Lantern, G.I. Joe, and Supergirl. With writer Jay Faerber, he worked on New Warriors and an Iron Fist/Wolverine miniseries for Marvel Comics. He also created Venture for Image Comics.

Jamal became the main artist for DC Comics' Firestorm series in 2004. In 2006, he also started working on the Nightwing series. He has worked on projects outside the United States too. These include Army of Angels for Humanoids Publishing and Perry Rhodan in Germany.

In 2005, Jamal signed a special contract with DC Comics. This meant he would work only for them for a time. DC Editor Steve Wacker praised Jamal. He called him "scary talented" and "super reliable." In 2010, Jamal received the Inkpot Award. This award honors achievements in comic art.

In 2011, Jamal was the artist for The Ray comic. This was part of DC's big New 52 relaunch. In 2012, his special contract with DC Comics ended.

In 2013, Jamal started working at Action Lab Comics. He helped with marketing and public relations. In 2015, he was promoted to Vice President of Marketing. He left the company in 2016. He then focused on the next part of his Molly Danger series.

Other Creative Work

In 2006, Jamal joined the staff at the Art Students League of New York. He also became an instructor at the School of Visual Arts in 2022. He teaches in the BFA Comics department.

I'm influenced by everyone I see and talk to. I'm a student of the world and I learn and grow everyday."

Personal Life

Jamal Igle and his wife, Karine, have a daughter named Catherine. As of November 2012, they live in Brooklyn.
