Muhammad Jameel Khan was a famous Pakistani scholar.

Muhammad Jameel Khan (born June 12, 1929 – died April 18, 2019) was a very important Pakistani scholar. He was also known as Jameel Jalibi. He was a linguist, a critic, a writer, and a scholar. This means he studied languages, reviewed books and art, wrote many things, and was a highly educated person.

Jalibi focused his work on Urdu literature and linguistics. Urdu literature means books, poems, and stories written in the Urdu language. Linguistics is the scientific study of language. He also served as the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Karachi. This is like being the main leader or president of a big university.

He was born in Aligarh, which was part of British India at the time. Later, he passed away in Karachi, Pakistan, on April 18, 2019, when he was 89 years old.

Awards and Recognition

Muhammad Jameel Khan received several important awards for his work. These awards showed how much his country appreciated his contributions to literature and language.

  • He received the Hilal-e-Imtiaz (Crescent of Distinction) Award in 1994. This is a very high honor given by the President of Pakistan.
  • He also received the Sitara-e-Imtiaz (Star of Distinction) Award from the President of Pakistan. This is another significant civilian award.
  • In 2006, he was given the Baba-i-Urdu Maulvi Abdul Haq Award. This is a National Literary Award from the Pakistan Academy of Letters.
