Jamel Richardson, born on January 22, 1982, is a former American football player. He played as a slotback in the Canadian Football League (CFL). A slotback is a type of receiver who lines up behind the main line of scrimmage. Jamel won two Grey Cup championships with the Montreal Alouettes. He was also named the Grey Cup Most Valuable Player (MVP) in 2010. Before playing professionally, Richardson went to Corcoran High School. He also played basketball and football at Victor Valley College.

Early Life and High School
Jamel Richardson grew up in the United States. He went to Corcoran High School where he played football. In 2011, his high school honored him. They added him to the Corcoran High School athletic hall of fame. This shows he was a very good athlete in school.
Jamel's Professional Football Journey
Jamel Richardson played for a few different teams during his career. He played in both the Canadian Football League (CFL) and the National Football League (NFL).
Playing for the Saskatchewan Roughriders
Richardson started his professional career with the Saskatchewan Roughriders. He played for them for four seasons. This was from 2003 to 2006. During this time, he caught 113 passes. He gained 1,471 yards and scored 4 touchdowns. A touchdown is when a player carries the ball into the opponent's end zone, scoring points.
Time with the Dallas Cowboys
In March 2007, Richardson signed with the Dallas Cowboys. This team is part of the National Football League (NFL). The NFL is the biggest football league in the United States. It was tough for him to make the team. The Cowboys already had many good wide receivers. On August 27, 2007, the Dallas Cowboys decided to release Richardson. This happened before the regular season started.
Success with the Montreal Alouettes
On March 18, 2008, Jamel Richardson joined the Montreal Alouettes. This team is in the CFL. He had a great first year with them. He was named a CFL All-Star in 2008. He led the CFL with 16 touchdown catches. He also caught 98 passes for 1,287 yards.
In 2009, Richardson made a big decision. He turned down offers from NFL teams. These teams included the Minnesota Vikings and the Seattle Seahawks. He chose to stay with the Alouettes for at least three more seasons.
On November 28, 2010, Richardson helped the Alouettes win the 98th Grey Cup. The Grey Cup is the championship game of the CFL. They beat the Saskatchewan Roughriders 21-18. Richardson was named the Grey Cup Most Valuable Player (MVP) for his amazing performance. He was the first receiver to win this award since 2003.
Richardson was very consistent for the Alouettes. He gained over 1,000 receiving yards for six years in a row. This streak lasted from 2008 through the 2012 CFL season. In 2013, he got a serious knee injury during practice. He tore his LCL and ACL ligaments. This injury meant he missed the rest of the 2013 season. After his injury, the team released him on June 21, 2014.
Return to the Saskatchewan Roughriders
After not playing in the 2014 regular season, Richardson signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders again. He rejoined them on December 22, 2014.
