James Lee Anderson (born March 25, 1989) is an American professional basketball player. He currently plays for Al-Ula in the Saudi Basketball League (SBL). James is known for playing as a small forward or shooting guard.
He played college basketball for the Oklahoma State Cowboys. In 2010, he was named the best player in the Big 12 Conference and an All-American. The San Antonio Spurs picked him 20th overall in the 2010 NBA draft.

High School Basketball Star
James Anderson went to Junction City High School in Junction City, Arkansas. In his final year, 2006–07, he led his team, the Dragons, to win the Arkansas Class 2A state championship. He scored an amazing 43 points in that championship game!
Because of his great skills, James was named the Gatorade Player of the Year for Arkansas. He was also chosen for the McDonald's All-American and Parade All-American teams. These honors show he was one of the best high school players in the country.
College Career Highlights
James Anderson chose to play for Oklahoma State University. He made a big impact right away, scoring 29 points in his very first college game. This was a huge win against Prairie View. He continued to play well, averaging 13.3 points per game in his first year. He was recognized as an honorable mention All-Big 12 player. He also made the Big 12 All-Rookie team.
As a sophomore, James kept getting better. His scoring average went up to 18.2 points per game. He even scored over 1,000 career points in just his second year! He was also named Academic All-Big 12 for his good grades.
After his second year, James was chosen to play for the United States team. They competed in the 2009 World University Games in Belgrade, Serbia. His team won the Bronze medal, which was a great achievement.
In his junior year, James became the top player in the Big 12 Conference. He led the conference in scoring, averaging over 24 points per game in league play. He helped his team, the Cowboys, achieve a good record. At the end of the season, James Anderson was named Big 12 Player of the Year. The Sporting News also named him a first-team All-American.
Professional Basketball Journey
Starting in the NBA
The San Antonio Spurs picked James Anderson in the 2010 NBA draft. He was the 20th player chosen overall. He played in a few games before getting injured. To help him recover and get back in shape, he spent some time playing for the Austin Toros in the NBA D-League (now called the G League).
After his time with the Spurs, James played for other NBA teams. He joined the Houston Rockets and later the Philadelphia 76ers. On November 13, 2013, he had his best scoring game with the 76ers. He scored 36 points in a thrilling overtime win against the Houston Rockets. He even made a crucial three-pointer to send the game into overtime!
Playing Overseas and Winning Championships
After his time in the NBA, James Anderson moved to play basketball internationally. He signed with Žalgiris Kaunas in Lithuania in 2014. He helped Žalgiris win the LKL championship for the fifth year in a row.
He then returned to the NBA briefly with the Sacramento Kings in 2015. After that, he went back to playing overseas. He played for Darüşşafaka in Turkey and Khimki in Russia.
From 2018 to 2022, James played for Anadolu Efes in Turkey. This was a very successful period for him. He helped his team win two EuroLeague titles in 2021 and 2022. The EuroLeague is one of the biggest basketball competitions in Europe. He also won two Turkish championships with Anadolu Efes.
After leaving Anadolu Efes, James played for UCAM Murcia in Spain (2022–2023) and Manisa BB in Turkey (2023–2024). As of 2024, James Anderson plays for Al-Ula in the Saudi Basketball League.
