James Barrie Sikking (born March 5, 1934 – died July 13, 2024) was an American actor. He was famous for playing Lieutenant Howard Hunter. This role was in the TV show Hill Street Blues during the 1980s.
Early Life
James Barrie Sikking was born in Los Angeles, California. His birthday was March 5, 1934. His parents were Andy and Sue Sikking. His mother helped start a church called Unity-by-the-Sea. It was located in Santa Monica. James Sikking finished college at UCLA in 1959.
Acting Career
Sikking had many important roles on television. He played Dr. David Howser on the ABC show Doogie Howser, M.D.. He was also Captain Stan Jonas in the 1997 drama Brooklyn South.
One of his most well-known roles was Sergeant Howard Hunter. He later became Lieutenant Hunter on Hill Street Blues. He was on this show from 1981 to 1987. Sikking also voiced General Gordon in the cartoon series Invasion America. Sometimes, he was called James Sikking or Jim Sikking in his early acting jobs.
He also acted in several movies. These include The Competition, Outland, and Star Trek III: The Search for Spock. His movie career began in 1955. He also appeared in the 1992 TV movie Doing Time on Maple Drive.
Sikking was a guest star on many popular TV shows. Some of these were Perry Mason, Bonanza, The Outer Limits, and General Hospital. He also appeared on The Incredible Hulk and The Rockford Files.
Personal Life and Passing
James Sikking married Florine Caplan in 1962. She was a cookbook author. They had three children together.
Sikking passed away on July 13, 2024. He was 90 years old. He died at his home in Los Angeles. His death was due to problems from dementia.
