Playing Career Highlights
Joining the NFL
James Hasty was chosen by the New York Jets in the third round of the 1988 NFL draft. He was the 74th player picked overall. He quickly became a key player for the Jets.
Star Cornerback
Hasty was known for his strong play as a cornerback. A cornerback is a defensive player whose main job is to cover wide receivers and stop them from catching passes. He was especially good at "bump and run coverage." This is a style where the defender physically bumps the receiver at the start of the play. This helps to disrupt their route.
Hasty was so good that he was selected for the Pro Bowl twice. This is an honor given to the best players in the NFL each season. He earned this recognition in 1997 and again in 1999. While playing for the Kansas City Chiefs, he and fellow cornerback Dale Carter were considered one of the best duos in the league.
