James Edward Hasty, born on May 23, 1965, is a former American football player. He was a talented cornerback in the National Football League (NFL). He played for the New York Jets, Kansas City Chiefs, and Oakland Raiders from 1988 to 2001. He also played college football for the Washington State Cougars.
Playing Career Highlights
James Hasty was chosen by the New York Jets in the third round of the 1988 NFL draft. This was the 74th pick overall. He quickly became a key player for the team.
He was selected to the Pro Bowl twice. This happened in the 1997 and 1999 NFL seasons. The Pro Bowl is an all-star game for the best players in the league. Hasty was known for his aggressive "bump and run" style of play. This means he would physically challenge receivers at the start of a play.
While playing for the Kansas City Chiefs, Hasty formed a strong team with Dale Carter. They were considered one of the best cornerback duos in the NFL.
Life After Football
After his time as a professional player, James Hasty became a football coach. From 2001 to 2004, he was an assistant coach for Bellevue High School. This team won four straight State Championships in Washington state.
In 2010, he returned to Bellevue High School. He coached the defensive backs for the Wolverines team. He later became the defensive coordinator for the team.
Hasty also worked for ESPN starting in 2006. He was an analyst, sharing his knowledge about both NFL and college football games.
Personal Life
James Hasty was a member of the Omega Psi Phi fraternity. He joined this group while attending Washington State University.
