James Pierre Jr. was born on September 16, 1996. He is an American professional football player. James plays as a cornerback for the Pittsburgh Steelers in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Florida Atlantic Owls. Pierre joined the Steelers in 2020 after the NFL Draft. He also played for the Washington Commanders for a short time.

Early Life and High School Football

James Pierre went to Deerfield Beach High School. In his senior year, he was a great player. He made 48 tackles and caught four interceptions. He also broke up two passes. His team, Deerfield Beach, had a strong record of 10 wins and 2 losses.

Local newspapers recognized his talent. The Miami Herald named him one of the top 25 seniors in his area. The Sun-Sentinel also gave him an honorable mention. Experts saw him as a promising player for college football.

College Football Career

James Pierre started his college football journey at Florida Atlantic. In 2017, his first year, he made 21 tackles. He also deflected two passes. As a sophomore, he continued to improve. He recorded 55 tackles and broke up nine passes.

In 2019, during his junior year, Pierre had a standout game. He made two interceptions in a win against Western Kentucky. That season, he finished with 44 tackles and three interceptions. Overall, he played 39 college games. He ended his college career with 120 tackles and 18 pass breakups. After this, he decided to enter the NFL Draft.

Professional Football Journey

After the 2020 NFL draft, James Pierre signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was an undrafted free agent, meaning no team picked him during the draft. Even so, he earned a spot on the Steelers' main roster. He was the only undrafted player to do so that year.

Playing for the Pittsburgh Steelers

On September 19, 2021, James Pierre started his first NFL game. He filled in for an injured teammate, Joe Haden. Later that year, on October 10, 2021, he made his first NFL interception. This happened in a game against the Denver Broncos.

Pierre continued to play for the Steelers. He re-signed with the team on March 21, 2023.

Time with the Washington Commanders

On March 21, 2024, James Pierre signed with the Washington Commanders. However, he was released by the team on August 27, 2024.

Returning to the Pittsburgh Steelers

James Pierre rejoined the Pittsburgh Steelers on September 17, 2024. He signed with their practice squad. He played in a game against the Los Angeles Chargers on September 22, 2024. Just two days later, on September 24, he was moved to the Steelers' active roster. He signed a new contract with the Steelers on March 20, 2025.
