Jamilah Lemieux (born July 22, 1984) is an American writer, editor, and cultural critic. She became well-known for her blog, The Beautiful Struggler. Jamilah has worked for Ebony magazine and other media companies. Today, she writes a column about parenting for Slate magazine. She also co-hosts a podcast called Mom & Dad Are Fighting.

Early Life and Education
Jamilah Lemieux was born and grew up in Chicago, Illinois. Her parents were involved in important civil rights groups. Her father, David Lemieux, was part of the Black Panther Party. This group worked for the rights and empowerment of African Americans. Her mother was active with the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC). This group played a big role in the Civil Rights Movement.
Jamilah went to Howard University for her college degree. She is also a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority.
Her Career as a Writer
After college, Jamilah started her writing journey. She began by writing on her blog, The Beautiful Struggler. Her blog mostly talked about race and relationships. She won the Black Weblog Awards three times for her blog.
In 2011, Jamilah became an editor for Ebony.com. She was promoted to senior editor in 2014. Later, in 2015, she became a senior editor for the print magazine.
Jamilah's writing has appeared in many well-known publications. These include Essence, The Nation, The Washington Post, and The New York Times. Her articles often focus on cultural topics from a feminist point of view. This means she looks at issues through the lens of women's rights and equality.
Other Work and Appearances
In 2009, Jamilah wrote an open letter to filmmaker Tyler Perry for NPR. She also appears as a TV commentator on networks like CNN and MSNBC. She has been a guest on popular shows such as The Nightly Show and The Breakfast Club. She also appeared as a commentator in the Surviving R. Kelly documentary series.
In 2016, she became a vice president at Interactive One. This company is part of Radio One, Inc. There, she helped create Cassius, a digital magazine for young people of color.
Jamilah has also worked in politics. In 2018, she was a communications advisor for Cynthia Nixon's campaign for governor. In 2019, she worked as a consultant for Elizabeth Warren's presidential campaign.
