Jan Decleir (born on February 14, 1946) is a famous Belgian movie and stage actor. He was born in Niel, a town in Antwerp, Belgium. He is known for his many roles in films and plays.

Jan Decleir's Acting Journey
Jan Decleir started his acting career with a big role in the movie Mira in 1971. Since then, he has acted in many films and TV shows in Belgium and the Netherlands. He became well-known in theater for his part in the play Mistero Buffo.
Becoming a TV Star
Many people recognized Jan Decleir from the TV series Sil de strandjutter in 1976. He also starred in movies that won or were nominated for Academy Awards. These include Karakter and Antonia, which won an Oscar. He was also in Daens, which was nominated for an Oscar.
Jan Decleir even turned down roles in big Hollywood movies. He said no to parts in Stanley Kubrick's Eyes Wide Shut and a James Bond film called The World Is Not Enough. From 1993 until 2019, he was also the national performer of Sinterklaas in Belgium, a very popular role for children.
Critically Acclaimed Performances
In 2003, Jan Decleir played the main character in the exciting thriller The Memory of a Killer. A famous American movie critic, Roger Ebert, praised his acting. Ebert said Decleir was "a rock-solid occupant of his character" and that his performance would be hard to match.
Jan Decleir also helped lead the Studio Herman Teirnlick for several years. This is a school where he brought in many new teachers who were actors from different theater groups.
Jan Decleir's Family Life
Jan Decleir married Brechtje Louwaard on April 1, 2006. Before that, he was married to Caroline van Gastel. He has three children named Sofie, Jenne, and Flor. His sister, Reinhilde Decleir, and his brother, Dirk Decleir, were also involved in acting. Reinhilde passed away in 2022, and Dirk passed away in 1974.
