Jan Meyers' Political Journey
Before joining the U.S. Congress, Jan Meyers was a member of the Kansas Senate. This is like a state-level parliament. She served in the Kansas Senate from 1972 until 1984.
In 1978, she tried to become a U.S. Senator. She ran in a "primary election" for the Republican Party. This is where people from the same party vote to choose their best candidate. Another politician named Nancy Kassebaum won that election.
