Janny Sikazwe, born in 1979, is a former international football referee from Zambia. A referee is a person who makes sure the rules are followed during a football match. Sikazwe became well-known in 2008 during the COSAFA U-20 Challenge Cup in South Africa. He stepped in to referee when another official could not. He officiated his final professional match on January 7, 2023, between Napsa Stars and Red Arrows.

Janny Sikazwe had an exciting career as a football referee. He was chosen to officiate in some of the biggest football tournaments in the world.
Major Tournaments and Finals
Sikazwe was one of the referees for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations. This is a major football tournament for national teams in Africa. He also refereed the final match of the 2016 FIFA Club World Cup in Japan. This competition brings together the best club teams from different continents. The following year, he was the referee for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations Final in Gabon.
FIFA World Cup Appearances
Janny Sikazwe was selected to be a referee at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. This is the most important football tournament in the world. He made his first appearance in a match between Belgium and Panama on June 18, 2018. This was a special moment because he became the first Zambian referee to officiate a game at the FIFA World Cup finals. He also refereed another group stage match at the 2018 World Cup.
He was also chosen to officiate at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. There, he refereed a group stage match between Belgium and Canada.
Memorable Match Incident
During the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, Janny Sikazwe was involved in a memorable incident. In a group stage game between Mali and Tunisia on January 12, 2022, he called for the end of the match too early, not once, but twice. First, he blew the whistle at the 86th minute, and then again just before the 91st minute. An official from the tournament later explained that Sikazwe was suffering from heat stroke. This health issue affected his ability to manage the match correctly.
