Jarilo is a Slavic god known for vegetation, fertility, and springtime. His name can be written in Cyrillic as Ярило, Ярила, or Јарило.
We know about Jarilo from an old German bishop. He wrote about people celebrating a festival called Gerovit. This name was likely the German way of saying Jarovit.
For a long time, people in countries like Russia, Belarus, and Serbia held folk festivals. These festivals were called Jarilo and took place in late spring. During these events, people honored a god of springtime. Similar celebrations also happened in Croatia and Slovenia.
