Jaromír Blažek's Club Career Highlights
Jaromír Blažek started his football journey in his hometown of Brno. He began playing for Slavia Prague in 1990. After a couple of years, he moved to Dynamo České Budějovice to become their main goalkeeper.
Early Success and First Trophies
In 1993, Blažek joined Viktoria Žižkov. With this team, he won his first major title, the Czech Cup, in 1994. This was a big achievement early in his career.
He then played for FC Bohemians. When his team was moved down to a lower league, he went on loan (a temporary move) back to Slavia Prague. There, he helped them win the Czech First League title in the 1995–96 season. After that, he returned to Bohemians.
Joining Sparta Prague and Major Wins
In 2000, Blažek joined Sparta Prague, one of the biggest clubs in the Czech Republic. This was a very successful time for him. He helped Sparta win the league title two years in a row, in 2000 and 2001.
He briefly went on loan to Marila Příbram in 2001. However, he soon returned to Sparta Prague. He became their main goalkeeper and played in many important matches, including those in the UEFA Champions League. During this period, he won four more league titles and three national cups with Sparta.
Playing Abroad and Return to Czech Republic
In 2007, Blažek moved to Germany to play for 1. FC Nürnberg. He was the team's starting goalkeeper. However, he became ill towards the end of the season. His team was unfortunately moved down to a lower league.
In June 2008, it was announced that Blažek would return to Sparta Prague. He continued to play for them until his contract ended in 2011.
Setting Records in the Czech League
Later in his career, Blažek played for Vysočina Jihlava. On February 22, 2014, he set a new record in the Czech league. He achieved his 139th "clean sheet" (a game where the goalkeeper doesn't let the other team score any goals). This was the most clean sheets by any goalkeeper in the league's history.
Jaromír Blažek's International Career
Jaromír Blažek also played for the Czech Republic national team. He made his first appearance on March 29, 2000, in a friendly match against Australia.
He was part of the Czech squad for several big tournaments, including Euro 2000, Euro 2004, and the 2006 World Cup. However, he often played as a backup goalkeeper because Petr Čech was usually the first choice. The only major tournament he played in was Euro 2004.
