Jarred Jakobi Vanderbilt (born April 3, 1999) is an American professional basketball player. He plays for the Los Angeles Lakers in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Jarred was chosen as a McDonald's All-American when he was in high school. He played college basketball for the Kentucky Wildcats. Later, the Denver Nuggets picked him in the 2018 NBA draft.

Early Life and High School Basketball
Jarred Vanderbilt was born in Houston, Texas. His parents, Gwendolyn and Robert Vanderbilt, both played college basketball. He has two older brothers and three older sisters. Some of his siblings also played basketball in college.
Jarred went to Victory Prep Academy in Houston. In his final year, he was an amazing player. He scored about 28 points, grabbed 13 rebounds, and made almost 9 assists per game.
Many experts thought Jarred was one of the best high school players in 2017. On December 23, 2016, he decided to play college basketball for the Kentucky Wildcats.
College Career at Kentucky
Even though Jarred was a top high school player, he faced some challenges in college. He had two injuries that limited his playing time. Because of this, he only played 14 games for the Kentucky Wildcats.
During his time at Kentucky, he averaged about 6 points and 8 rebounds per game. After his first year, he decided to enter the 2018 NBA draft to become a professional player.
Professional Basketball Journey
Starting with the Denver Nuggets (2018–2020)
On June 21, 2018, the Orlando Magic picked Jarred as the 41st player in the NBA draft. However, he was soon traded to the Denver Nuggets. He officially signed with the Nuggets on July 11, 2018.
Jarred played his first NBA game on January 25, 2019. The Nuggets won against the Phoenix Suns. He played for four minutes, scoring one point and grabbing three rebounds. Sometimes, he also played for teams in the NBA G League, which helps players develop their skills.
Playing for the Minnesota Timberwolves (2020–2022)
On February 5, 2020, Jarred was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves. He made his debut for the Timberwolves on December 27, 2020. In that game, he scored two points, had seven rebounds, and made six assists.
On January 23, 2021, Jarred had his best game yet. He scored 16 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in a win against the New Orleans Pelicans. He signed again with the Timberwolves on September 15, 2021. During the 2021–22 season, he started in 67 games. He averaged his career-best numbers, including 6.9 points and 8.4 rebounds per game.
Time with the Utah Jazz (2022–2023)
On July 6, 2022, Jarred was part of a big trade. He moved to the Utah Jazz along with several other players and draft picks. This trade involved many teams and players.
Joining the Los Angeles Lakers (2023–Present)
On February 9, 2023, Jarred was traded again, this time to the Los Angeles Lakers. This was a three-team trade that also involved the Minnesota Timberwolves. He played his first game for the Lakers two days later. He scored 12 points and helped the Lakers win against the Golden State Warriors.
On September 18, 2023, Jarred signed a new four-year contract with the Lakers. This showed that the team believed in him. On December 9, 2023, Jarred and the Lakers made history. They won the very first NBA In-Season Tournament championship!
Playing for Team USA
Jarred has also played for the United States national basketball team. In 2015, he won a gold medal with the USA U16 National Team. This was at the 2015 FIBA Americas Under-16 Championship. He also played well in the 2017 Nike Hoop Summit, helping Team USA win against a team of international players.

Personal Life
Since 2020, Jarred Vanderbilt has followed a vegan diet. He first tried it as a one-month challenge and decided to stick with it.
