Jarren Giovanni Benton (born October 26, 1981) is an American rapper from Decatur, Georgia. He began his music career in 2004. In 2012, he signed with Hopsin's independent record label, Funk Volume. His first studio album, My Grandma's Basement, was released in 2013. It was well-received and appeared on the Billboard 200 music chart. After Funk Volume closed in 2016, Benton joined Jay-Z's Roc Nation label in 2018. He then released his album Yuck Fou.

Jarren Benton's Early Life and Inspirations
From a young age, Jarren Benton dreamed of becoming a rapper. He shared that he started rapping when he was quite young. As he got older, he began performing in Atlanta. He gained some recognition there, even though the music scene in Atlanta was mostly known for a different style of hip hop.
Benton looks up to many famous artists who influenced his music. Some of his biggest inspirations include OutKast, Goodie Mob, Dr. Dre, Ludacris, Busta Rhymes, Redman, Wu-Tang Clan, and Eminem.

Early Mixtapes and First Record Deal
Jarren Benton released his first official mixtape, Jarren Benton: The Mixtape, on August 5, 2009. The Beatgods produced all the songs on this mixtape. In 2011, he released another mixtape with producer SMKA. This project was supported by the song "Get a Load of Me".
Benton started getting more attention after his song "Skitzo" became popular. American rapper Hopsin saw the music video for "Skitzo". Hopsin then showed it to Dame Ritter, who was the CEO of Funk Volume, a record label. A few months later, Ritter contacted Benton. In May 2012, Hopsin and Ritter officially signed Jarren Benton to their Funk Volume record label.
Before joining Funk Volume, Benton had been approached by other big record labels like Def Jam Recordings and Interscope Records. However, he chose to sign with the independent label Funk Volume. His first project with Funk Volume was a mixtape released on June 28, 2012. This mixtape featured other artists like Dizzy Wright, Rittz, and Freeway.
First Albums and Tours
In late 2012, Jarren Benton went on an international tour with Hopsin, Dizzy Wright, and other artists. They performed 54 shows in 60 days across the United States, Europe, and Australia. Benton explained that his first album would be more personal. He wanted people to learn more about him through his music. He also aimed for a more polished sound that would help him become a well-known artist.
On June 11, 2013, Benton released his first studio album, My Grandma's Basement, through Funk Volume. The album included guest appearances from Dizzy Wright, Hopsin, and R.A. the Rugged Man. My Grandma's Basement reached number 152 on the Billboard 200 chart. It also reached number four on the Billboard Heatseekers Albums chart. He released music videos for several songs from the album, including "Go Off" and "Life In the Jungle".
In August 2013, Benton went on his first solo tour, called the Grandma's Basement Tour, across the United States. Later that year, he toured with rappers Rittz and Snow Tha Product on "The Life And Times Tour." Benton also appeared on Hopsin's album Knock Madness on the song "Who's There."
Jarren Benton was voted by fans to be part of the 2014 XXL freshman class. This is a special list that highlights rising hip hop artists. He was called the "People's Champ." At 32 years old, he was the oldest rapper ever chosen for this list. From April to June 2014, Benton toured with Tech N9ne, Freddie Gibbs, and Krizz Kaliko on the Independent Grind Tour.
On January 27, 2015, Benton released his first extended play (EP) called Slow Motion. This EP reached number 168 on the Billboard 200 chart.
New Labels and Later Albums
On July 22, 2016, Jarren Benton released his second studio album, Slow Motion, Vol. 2. This was his first album released under his own independent record label, Benton Enterprises. It was a follow-up to his 2015 EP.
On June 23, 2017, Benton released his third studio album, The Mink Coat Killa. Two songs from the album, "C.R.E.A.M. 17" and "Again", were released as singles. Benton shared that this project was meant to be a tribute to the famous hip hop group Wu-Tang Clan. The album's title was even a reference to his own Wu-Tang name, "The Mink Coat Killa."
On January 5, 2018, Benton collaborated with the record label StillMovin to release a project called One Week Notice. This album was created when the label owner, Damian Ritter, brought Benton together with other artists like Dizzy Wright and Audio Push. They recorded the entire album in just one week.
In June 2018, Benton and Kato released the song "Don't Need You" featuring Hopsin. They also announced that they would release a collaborative album. On July 25, Benton and Kato released another song, "Money Bag," featuring Jay Park. They announced that their collaborative album, Yuck Fou, would be released under Roc Nation.
In 2022, Jarren Benton released a song called "Nancy" with rapper Samson. This song was a political satire, which means it used humor to comment on political topics.
