Jarrett Allen was born on April 21, 1998. He is an American professional basketball player. He plays for the Cleveland Cavaliers in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Jarrett played college basketball for the Texas Longhorns. The Brooklyn Nets picked him 22nd in the 2017 NBA draft. In January 2021, he joined the Cleveland Cavaliers. This happened as part of a big trade involving four teams. In February 2022, Jarrett was chosen for his first NBA All-Star Game.

Jarrett Allen's Early Life and High School Years

Jarrett Allen started high school at Round Rock High School in Round Rock, Texas. After his first year, he moved to St. Stephen's Episcopal School in Austin, Texas. He spent his last three high school years there. During this time, he helped his team win two SPC championships. Jarrett also played in the 2016 McDonald's All-American Boys Game. This game features the best high school basketball players. He decided to play college basketball at the University of Texas at Austin. Experts thought Jarrett was a top player. They ranked him as the 15th best player in his high school class of 2016.

College Basketball Career at Texas

As a first-year student at the University of Texas, Jarrett played very well. He scored about 13.4 points per game. He also grabbed 8.4 rebounds per game. However, his team, the Texas Longhorns, had a tough season. They won only 11 games and lost 22. One of his best games was against Kansas. He scored 22 points and got 19 rebounds. After this season, he decided to enter the 2017 NBA draft. He chose to skip his last three years of college basketball.

Playing for the Brooklyn Nets (2017–2021)

The Brooklyn Nets chose Jarrett Allen as the 22nd pick in the 2017 NBA draft. He signed his first professional contract with the Nets on July 20. When he played his first NBA game on October 20, he was 19 years and 182 days old. This made him the second-youngest player to ever play for the Nets. Only Derrick Favors was younger when he first played for the team. In his first game, Jarrett scored nine points. He also got two rebounds and one block.

On January 25, 2018, Jarrett started his first game for the Nets. He scored 16 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. This helped his team win against the Philadelphia 76ers. On February 2, he scored a career-high 20 points against the Los Angeles Lakers. He also had five rebounds and one block in that game. A few days later, on February 7, he got a career-high 14 rebounds. On April 5, he blocked five shots in a game. This was his career best for blocks.

On November 17, 2018, Jarrett scored a career-high 24 points. He also had 11 rebounds against the Los Angeles Clippers. On January 16, 2019, he had an amazing game. He scored 20 points and grabbed a career-high 24 rebounds. This helped the Nets win a very close game against the Houston Rockets in overtime.

Joining the Cleveland Cavaliers (2021–Present)

On January 14, 2021, Jarrett Allen was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers. This was a big trade involving four teams. It was the same trade that sent James Harden to the Nets.

On July 23, 2021, the Cavaliers offered Jarrett a new contract. He officially signed a long-term deal with Cleveland on August 6. On October 20, 2021, Jarrett made history. He became the first player since 1954 to make 10 or more shots without missing in a season opener. In February 2022, Jarrett was chosen for the 2022 NBA All-Star Game. He replaced James Harden, the player he was traded for.

Jarrett started all 56 games he played in the 2021–22 season. He had his best season yet. He averaged 16.1 points and 10.8 rebounds per game. He also had 1.6 assists, 1.3 blocks, and 0.8 steals per game. Jarrett and his teammate Evan Mobley helped the Cavaliers improve a lot. They went from being one of the worst defensive teams to one of the best.

On December 28, 2023, Jarrett had a great game. He scored 24 points and grabbed 23 rebounds. He also had 6 assists and 2 steals. The next day, he scored 30 points and had 12 rebounds. On January 22, 2024, he set a new team record. He had 12 games in a row where he scored double-digits in points and rebounds. This is called a "double-double" streak. In the 2024 NBA playoffs, Jarrett had a playoff career-high 20 rebounds in a game.

On July 31, 2024, Jarrett and the Cavaliers agreed to a new contract. It is a three-year deal worth $91 million.

Personal Life

Jarrett Allen's father, Leonard, was also a basketball player. The Dallas Mavericks drafted him in the 1985 NBA draft. He played college basketball at San Diego State and also played in Spain. Jarrett's older brother, Leonard Jr., also played college basketball for Baylor University.
