Jarrett Ryan Culver (born February 20, 1999) is an American professional basketball player. He currently plays for the Sendai 89ers in Japan's B.League. Jarrett played college basketball for the Texas Tech Red Raiders. He was chosen by the Phoenix Suns as the sixth player in the 2019 NBA draft.

Early Life and Basketball Beginnings
Jarrett Culver was born in Dallas, Texas. When he was three, his family moved to Lubbock, Texas, where he grew up. His dad is a pastor, and his mom works with a program for young children. Jarrett first played football and soccer. But in middle school, he decided to focus on basketball. He often played basketball games on his driveway with his older brothers, Trey and J.J.
High School Basketball Career
Jarrett went to Coronado High School in Lubbock. He was a star player on the basketball team. In his junior year, he scored about 20 points per game. He helped his team reach the semifinals of a big regional tournament. He was even named the Lone Star Varsity Player of the Year.
In his senior year, Jarrett scored around 30 points per game. He also led his team in rebounds and assists. Even with a shoulder injury, he helped Coronado reach the playoffs again. He was named Lone Star Varsity Player of the Year for a second time.
After high school, Jarrett decided to play college basketball for Texas Tech. He chose them on September 22, 2016. Other big colleges like Baylor and Texas also wanted him to play for them.
College Basketball Journey
Freshman Year at Texas Tech
Jarrett started playing for Texas Tech on November 10, 2017. In one of his early games, he scored 21 points. He also had 18 points and 7 assists in another game. For his great play, he was named the Big 12 Conference Newcomer of the Week.
Later in his freshman year, Jarrett had his first "double-double." This means he got double-digit numbers in two different stats in one game. He scored 26 points and grabbed 12 rebounds against West Virginia. As a freshman, he averaged 11.2 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. He set a new record for freshmen at Texas Tech by scoring 229 points in conference games.
Sophomore Year Success
In his second year, Jarrett became a team leader. He was named one of the top 20 players for the Jerry West Award. On November 20, 2018, he scored 26 points against Nebraska. This helped him win the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award at the Hall of Fame Classic tournament.
On December 15, Jarrett had an amazing game. He scored 30 points and made 12 out of 13 shots! He was then named Big 12 Player of the Week. On March 9, 2019, he scored a career-high 31 points against Iowa State.
Jarrett led the Red Raiders to win a share of the Big 12 regular season title. Because of his excellent play, he was named Big 12 Player of the Year.
March Madness Run
In the 2019 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament, Jarrett helped Texas Tech make a deep run. In the first game, he almost got a "triple-double" (double-digits in three stats). He had 29 points, 8 rebounds, and 7 assists.
He then helped his team win against Buffalo, getting a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. In the "Sweet 16" round, he scored 22 points to help Texas Tech upset Michigan. Then, in the "Elite Eight," he led his team with 19 points to beat Gonzaga. This win sent Texas Tech to the "Final Four" for the first time ever!
Texas Tech won their Final Four game against Michigan State. But they lost a close game in overtime to Virginia in the championship. After this great season, Jarrett decided to enter the 2019 NBA draft.
Professional Basketball Career
Minnesota Timberwolves (2019–2021)
The Phoenix Suns picked Jarrett as the 6th player in the 2019 NBA draft. But his draft rights were quickly traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves. This trade was made official on July 6, 2019. Two days later, Jarrett signed his first professional contract with the Timberwolves.
He played his first NBA game on October 23, 2019. He scored four points and helped his team win in overtime. On January 18, 2020, Jarrett scored a career-high 26 points against the Toronto Raptors. In April 2021, he had surgery on his right ankle, which ended his season early.
Memphis Grizzlies and G League (2021–2022)
On August 25, 2021, Jarrett was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies. He also played for their G League team, the Memphis Hustle. The G League is like a minor league for the NBA. On April 10, 2022, he scored 14 points in a game against the Boston Celtics.
Jarrett made his NBA playoff debut on April 19, 2022. The Grizzlies won their first playoff series. But they lost to the Golden State Warriors in the next round.
Atlanta Hawks and College Park Skyhawks (2022–2023)
On September 12, 2022, Jarrett signed a "two-way contract" with the Atlanta Hawks. This type of contract allows a player to play for both an NBA team and its G League team. He also played for the Hawks' G League team, the College Park Skyhawks. He was waived by the Hawks on January 14, 2023.
Rio Grande Valley Vipers (2023–2024)
On January 26, 2023, Jarrett was traded to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, another G League team. He played for them until 2024.
Osceola Magic (2024–2025)
On September 11, 2024, Jarrett signed with the Orlando Magic. However, he was waived by them in October. A few days later, he joined the Osceola Magic, their G League team.
Sendai 89ers (2025–Present)
On June 20, 2025, Jarrett Culver signed with the Sendai 89ers in Japan. He now plays professional basketball in the B.League.
Personal Life
Jarrett Culver is a Christian. His father, Hiawatha Culver Jr., is the team chaplain for Texas Tech basketball. He would lead a prayer before each home game. Jarrett's older brother, J.J., also played basketball with him in high school. His oldest brother, Trey, was a talented high jumper for the Texas Tech track and field team.
