Early Life and High School Football
Jarrod Bunch was born in Ashtabula, Ohio, in 1968. When he was five years old, he had an accident with a lawnmower and lost a toe on his right foot.
He went to Ashtabula High School and was an amazing football player. He also set school records in pole vault and discus. Jarrod was the first student from his high school to get a scholarship to play football at a big college. He was also the first and only one from his school to be picked in the first round of the National Football League draft.
Playing for the Michigan Wolverines
Jarrod started at the University of Michigan in 1986. He played college football as a fullback for the Michigan Wolverines football teams from 1987 to 1990. He originally wanted to play tailback, but another great player, Jamie Morris, was already in that spot. So, Jarrod became a fullback instead.
He started many games as a fullback during his time at Michigan. In 1990, he was even the captain of the team. That year, the team won nine games and defeated Ole Miss in the 1991 Gator Bowl. They finished the season ranked #7 in the country. During his four years at Michigan, Jarrod ran for 1,346 yards and scored eight touchdowns. He also caught 30 passes for 215 yards and four touchdowns.
Jarrod earned a bachelor's degree in Sports Management and Communications. He used his fifth year of scholarship to go to graduate school.
