Jasmin Mozaffari (Persian: یاسمین مظفری) is a talented Canadian filmmaker. She is known for directing and writing movies. Jasmin won a big award called the Canadian Screen Award for Best Director in 2019. This was for her very first full-length movie, Firecrackers.

Early Life and Education
Jasmin Mozaffari was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Her father came to Canada from Tehran, Iran. Her mother is from Provost, Alberta. Jasmin grew up in Barrie, Ontario. Later, she moved to Toronto to study film. She attended Ryerson University (now Toronto Metropolitan University) for her film studies.
Her Filmmaking Career
Jasmin Mozaffari finished her studies at Ryerson University in 2013. Her student film, also called Firecrackers, was shown at the Toronto International Film Festival that same year. After graduating, Jasmin directed two short films. These were WAVE (2015) and sleep on the tracks (2018). WAVE was shown at the Vancouver International Film Festival.
Making Firecrackers a Feature Film
Jasmin decided to turn her short student film Firecrackers into a longer movie. This became her first full-length film. The movie was made with help from the Telefilm Canada Talent to Watch Fund. Firecrackers first showed at the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival. It then traveled to many other film festivals around the world. The movie won "Best Film" at the Stockholm International Film Festival. In December 2018, the Toronto International Film Festival chose it for their Canada's Top Ten list.
The film was released in cinemas in Canada and the US in 2019. It was even picked as a "Critic's Pick" by The New York Times.
Directing TV Shows and More Short Films
Jasmin has also directed episodes for popular television shows. These include Holly Hobbie and Fakes.
Her short film Motherland was shown at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival. It won the "Best Canadian Short Film" award there. In 2024, Motherland also won the Canadian Screen Award for Best Live Action Short Drama.
Awards and Recognition
In March 2019, Jasmin Mozaffari won a major award. She received the Canadian Screen Award for Best Director. This was for her work on Firecrackers. Many famous publications have praised her films. These include The New York Times, Vulture, Los Angeles Times, The Hollywood Reporter, and Variety.
Peter Debruge, a film critic from Variety, called Jasmin a "major talent." He even compared her to another famous director, Andrea Arnold.
In March 2020, Jasmin was chosen for a special program. The Toronto International Film Festival's Writers' Studio selected her. She was one of eight writers picked to develop a new full-length movie script.
