His Musical Journey
Starting with Jakura
Jasmine You was born in Aichi Prefecture, Japan. He formed the band Jakura (雀羅) in March 1998. At that time, he used the name Yuu (勇).
After Jakura broke up on June 9, 2003, he decided not to join another full-time band right away. Instead, he played with different groups for short periods. In June 2006, he moved to Tokyo. There, his long-time friend Hizaki asked him to join his solo music project, called Hizaki grace project.
Joining Versailles
In 2007, Hizaki and Kamijo (who was from the band Lareine) decided to create a new band called Versailles. Jasmine You became a member of Versailles in a very natural way. He spent a lot of time with Kamijo and Hizaki, and it just felt right for him to be in the band.
In the early days of Versailles, Jasmine You helped with the business side of the band. He had many connections with other musicians, music stores, and companies. At the same time, he was still working with Hizaki grace project. He also played in Kamijo's project, Node of Scherzo, which included Hizaki, Juka, and Kaya.
In June 2009, Versailles signed with a major record label, Warner Music Japan. They released their single "Ascendead Master". Versailles released five singles, one mini-album, and one full-length album before Jasmine You's passing.
His Passing
On August 3, 2009, it was announced that Jasmine You would temporarily stop all his music activities. This was because of health reasons, and he needed time to recover. At that time, Versailles' new album, Jubilee, was almost finished. The bass parts for the album were being recorded.
Sadly, in the early morning of August 9, 2009, Versailles' official website announced that Jasmine You had passed away. The band members and staff were very shocked and saddened by the sudden news.
Versailles now refers to Jasmine You as an "eternal member." This means they will always consider him a part of the band. Even almost a year after his passing, the exact cause was not shared by his family.
Remembering Jasmine You
Fans in the United States held four memorial gatherings for Jasmine You on August 22, 2009. These events took place in New York, California, Washington, and Texas.
On January 4, 2010, Versailles held a special event called the Jasmine You -Memorial Ceremony- at Shibuya O-East. Versailles performed, along with Kaya and Matenrou Opera.
Versailles' 2011 album, Holy Grail, includes two songs dedicated to Jasmine You: "Remember Forever" and "Faith & Decision." On the second anniversary of his passing, his former bandmate Teru wrote a song called "「For You」" especially for Jasmine You.
