Jason Jeffrey Collier (born September 8, 1977 – died October 15, 2005) was an American professional basketball player. He played in the National Basketball Association (NBA).

High School Basketball Star
Jason Collier was a fantastic basketball player in high school. He went to Catholic Central High School in his hometown of Springfield, Ohio. In 1996, he led his team to win the Ohio State Basketball Championship! Because of his amazing skills, he was also named "Ohio Mr. Basketball" that same year.
College Basketball Journey
After high school, Jason played college basketball. He started at Indiana University. Later, he transferred and finished his college career at Georgia Tech.
Professional NBA Career
Jason Collier was chosen by the Milwaukee Bucks in the 2000 NBA draft. He was the 15th player picked overall. On the same day he was drafted, he was traded to the Houston Rockets. He played for the Rockets for a few years.
Later, Jason joined the Atlanta Hawks. During his time in the NBA, he scored an average of 5.6 points per game.
One of his best games was on March 12, 2004. Playing for the Hawks, Jason scored a career-high 22 points! This helped his team win against the Washington Wizards. It was one of only three times in his entire NBA career that he scored 20 or more points in a single game.
Jason's last NBA game was on April 20, 2005. He was the starting center for the Hawks in that game.
Remembering Jason Collier
Jason Collier sadly passed away suddenly on October 15, 2005, at the age of 28. He died in Cumming, Georgia. Doctors found that he had a sudden heart problem because his heart was larger than normal.
To honor Jason, the Atlanta Hawks basketball team wore special black patches on their uniforms. The NBA Development League (now called the G League), where Jason had played for a year, also created an award in his name. This award is called the Jason Collier Sportsmanship Award. It is given to players who show great sportsmanship, just like Jason did.
