Ángel Javier Arizmendi de Lucas (born on March 3, 1984) is a Spanish former professional footballer. He played as a forward or a winger.
Javier Arizmendi played 181 matches in La Liga, which is Spain's top football league. He scored 20 goals during his nine seasons there. He played for several well-known clubs like Atlético Madrid, Valencia, and Zaragoza.
He also played for different youth teams for Spain. He played one match for the main Spanish national team.

Javier Arizmendi's Club Career
Javier Arizmendi was born in Madrid, Spain. He started his football journey in the youth system of Atlético Madrid. He played his first game in La Liga for Atlético Madrid's main team on February 15, 2004. This was an away game against FC Barcelona.
The next season, he played for Racing de Santander on loan. This meant he played for them for a short time before returning to Atlético Madrid.
Moving to New Teams
Javier Arizmendi didn't get many chances to play at Atlético Madrid. So, on January 3, 2006, he joined Deportivo de La Coruña. Atlético Madrid had a special rule to buy him back later if they wanted to.
On June 21, 2007, he moved to Valencia CF. He signed a six-year contract with them.
During the 2007–08 season, Arizmendi sometimes played as a right back. This was because other players in that position were injured. On March 23, 2008, he scored his first goal for Valencia in a game against Real Madrid. Valencia won that game 3–2. He also helped Valencia win the 2007–08 Copa del Rey, which is a big cup competition in Spain.
Playing for Zaragoza and Getafe
On August 12, 2008, Arizmendi joined Real Zaragoza. He signed a six-year contract with them. In his first year, he was very important for the team. He helped Zaragoza get back into the top league after just one year. He scored nine goals that season.
On June 30, 2010, Arizmendi signed a six-year contract with Getafe CF. He had helped Zaragoza stay in the top league by playing 31 games and scoring five goals. Getafe had qualified for the UEFA Europa League, a big European competition.
However, after one season that wasn't very successful, he moved to Neuchâtel Xamax in Switzerland. This was a loan for the whole season.
Return to Spain
Javier Arizmendi left the Swiss team on January 6, 2012. He played his first game back in Spain on February 4, 2012. He came on as a substitute and played for 24 minutes in a game against Real Madrid.
Javier Arizmendi's International Career
In 2003, Javier Arizmendi was called to play for the Spain under-20 team. This was before he had played much at the highest level of football. He played in the 2003 FIFA World Youth Championship in the United Arab Emirates.
In that tournament, he scored a winning goal in extra time against Canada in the quarter-finals. Spain ended up finishing as the runner-up in the competition.
He played his first game for the main Spanish national team on February 7, 2007. This was a friendly match against England at Old Trafford. He played the last 25 minutes of the game, and Spain won 1–0.
Life After Football
After he stopped playing professional football, Javier Arizmendi went back to school. He earned a Master's degree in private banking. This shows that he is smart both on and off the field!
