Starting His Career
Jawn Murray was born in Warrenton, Virginia. Later, his family moved to Falls Church, Virginia. He went to Norfolk State University and studied Mass Communications. This field teaches about how information is shared with many people, like through TV or radio.
He got an internship at a radio station in Washington, DC, called WPGC 95.5 FM. An internship is like a temporary job where you learn new skills. This was the start of his career in entertainment. A host at the station, Michel Wright, noticed Jawn's interest in celebrity news. She hired him to find stories for her on-air entertainment segment.
From Writing to Radio
Jawn Murray began his career as an entertainment news reporter. He started with an email newsletter called Garek News. Then, he wrote a weekly column for the Electronic Urban Report website, now known as EURweb.com.
His writing career grew even more when he wrote a popular column called BV Buzz. This column was for AOL's Black Voices channel for seven years. While working for AOL, he also wrote over 20 magazine cover stories. These stories appeared in magazines like Black Elegance and Savoy.
In September 2006, Jawn joined the Tom Joyner Morning Show. This was a nationally broadcast radio program. He became one of the youngest people to ever contribute to the show.
Moving to Television
Jawn Murray also started doing segments for television. His first TV appearance was on an E! Entertainment show called "Love Chain." He then became an expert on shows for Court TV and HLN. He also gave commentary on shows like VH1's The Fabulous Life of... and E!'s True Hollywood Story.
