Jay Dee Bentley was born on June 6, 1964. He is a talented musician, best known as the bass player and a co-founder of the punk rock band Bad Religion. Jay has been with the band for almost its entire history. He took a short break from 1983 to 1985. Along with the band's singer, Greg Graffin, Jay Bentley has played on almost all of Bad Religion's studio albums. The only album he didn't play on was their second one, Into the Unknown, released in 1983.
Jay Bentley's Music Journey
Jay Bentley grew up in Santa Clarita, California. He later moved to Woodland Hills. He went to El Camino Real High School with Brett Gurewitz, who plays guitar, and Greg Graffin, the lead singer. Jay was part of Bad Religion for three years, from 1980 to 1983. He left the band while they were working on their second album, Into the Unknown.
Jay Bentley also played with other famous bands from Los Angeles. These included Wasted Youth, T.S.O.L., The Circle Jerks, and Cathedral Of Tears. He came back to Bad Religion in late 1985. The original members reunited to record three albums: Suffer, No Control, and Against the Grain. Many fans think these are some of their best works.
Today, Jay Bentley is still touring and recording music with Bad Religion. He has played on every Bad Religion release, except for Into the Unknown (1983) and the Back to the Known (1985) EP. The band's most recent album, Age of Unreason, came out on May 1, 2019. Since the early 2010s, Jay has also played bass and sung backup for the band Me First And The Gimme Gimmes.
Jay Bentley's Family Life
Jay Bentley has two sons. His son Miles was born in 1991 and played bass in a band called Dave Hause and The Mermaid. His other son, Hunter, was born in 1993. Jay also has a daughter named Peribeau and a son named Dragon. He lives with his wife, Natalia Fabia, in Costa Mesa, California.
Jay Bentley's Musical Gear
For most of his time with Bad Religion, Jay Bentley has used Fender basses. He often plays black or white Precision models. In recent years, he has started using Epiphone basses and even has his own special Jack Cassidy signature model. Jay often uses a pick when he plays the bass guitar.
