Jayson Dee Bentley (born June 6, 1964) is a talented musician. He is best known as the bassist and a co-founder of the punk rock band Bad Religion. Jay has been with the band for almost its entire history. He took a short break between 1983 and 1985.
Along with the band's singer, Greg Graffin, Jay Bentley has played on nearly all of Bad Religion's studio albums. The only album he didn't play on was their second one, Into the Unknown, released in 1983.

Jay Bentley's Music Career
Early Life and Joining Bad Religion
Jay Bentley grew up in Santa Clarita, California. He later moved to Woodland Hills. He went to El Camino Real High School with Brett Gurewitz, the guitarist, and Greg Graffin, the lead singer. These three friends started the band Bad Religion together.
Jay played with Bad Religion for three years, from 1980 to 1983. He left the band while they were working on their second album, Into the Unknown.
Playing with Other Bands
During his break from Bad Religion, Jay Bentley played with other groups. These included Wasted Youth, T.S.O.L., The Circle Jerks, and Cathedral Of Tears. These were all well-known bands in the Los Angeles music scene.
Returning to Bad Religion
Jay Bentley rejoined Bad Religion in late 1985. The original members got back together to record new music. They also added Greg Hetson from The Circle Jerks as a second guitarist.
After Jay returned, Bad Religion recorded three albums: Suffer, No Control, and Against the Grain. Many fans consider these albums to be some of their best work.
Current Activities
Today, Jay Bentley continues to tour and record music with Bad Religion. He has been on every Bad Religion release since his return. The band's most recent studio album, Age of Unreason, was released on May 1, 2019.
Since the early 2010s, Jay has also been a regular touring member of the band Me First And The Gimme Gimmes. He plays bass and sings backup vocals for them.
Jay Bentley's Personal Life
Jay Bentley is a family man. He has two sons named Miles (born in 1991) and Hunter (born in 1993). Miles has also played bass in a band called Dave Hause and The Mermaid. Jay also has a daughter named Peribeau and another son named Dragon. He lives with his wife, Natalia Fabia, in Costa Mesa, California.
Jay Bentley's Equipment
Jay Bentley mainly uses Fender bass guitars. For most of his time in Bad Religion, he has played black or white Precision models. In recent years, he has also supported Epiphone guitars. He even has his own special Jack Casady signature bass. Jay often uses a pick when he plays the bass.
