Jay Olcutt Sanders (born April 16, 1953) is an American actor and writer. He has worked in movies, on TV shows, and in plays. He is known for his roles in films like Glory and JFK. He has also appeared in many TV series and narrated documentaries.

Sanders has won awards for his acting, including a Drama Desk Award. He often performs in plays off-Broadway at The Public Theatre in New York City.

Early Life and School

Jay Sanders was born in Austin, Texas, on April 16, 1953. His father, James Olcutt Sanders, was a musician and worked with arts groups. His mother was Phyllis Rae Aden. Jay's parents were Quakers. He studied acting at the State University of New York, Purchase.

Acting Career

Jay Sanders started his acting career in theatre. His first off-Broadway play was Henry V in 1976. This play was part of the Shakespeare in the Park series. He also played a role in Sam Shepard's play Buried Child in 1978. He made his first appearance on Broadway in the play Loose Ends in 1979.

Movies and TV Shows

Sanders has acted in many popular movies. Some of his well-known films include Glory (1989), JFK (1991), and Angels in the Outfield (1994). He also appeared in The Day After Tomorrow (2004) and Green Lantern (2011).

On television, Sanders has had many roles. He played Steven Kordo in the TV series Crime Story. He also had recurring roles in shows like Law & Order: Criminal Intent, The Good Wife, Person of Interest, and Blindspot. He is also known for narrating several documentary series, including Wide Angle, Nova, and Secrets of the Dead.

Theatre Performances

Jay Sanders has a long history in theatre. He has performed in many Broadway plays, such as The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial (1983) and Pygmalion (2007). More recently, he was in Girl from the North Country (2020) and Purlie Victorious (2023) on Broadway.
