The Day After Tomorrow is an exciting science fiction disaster movie from 2004. It was made in the United States and Canada. The movie was directed and produced by Roland Emmerich. 20th Century Fox helped share it with the world. It first came out in Mexico City on May 17, 2004, and then everywhere else between May 26 and May 28.
The story shows what happens when the Earth's climate changes very quickly. This leads to extreme weather events all over the planet.
What Happens in the Movie
The film shows many scary weather events that happen because of global warming. These events cause the Earth to get much colder, starting a new ice age.
- Japan is hit by a huge hail storm with giant ice balls.
- Los Angeles is struck by powerful tornadoes that cause a lot of damage.
- New Delhi in India gets buried under a heavy blizzard (a snowstorm).
- New York City faces a very strong thunderstorm. This storm causes a massive storm surge, which is like a giant wave of water. Later, the storm turns into a blizzard. This blizzard has a super cold "eye" in its center. Anything that touches the air in this eye freezes instantly!
These extreme weather changes cause the whole world to cool down very fast. This sudden cooling brings about a new ice age.
How the Movie Was Made
The movie earned a lot of money. It made over $186 million in North America and Canada. Worldwide, it made more than $542 million! The idea for the movie came from a book called The Coming Global Superstorm. This book was written by Art Bell and Whitley Strieber.
