Jazmin Roxy Carlin, also known as Jazz, is a fantastic former swimmer from Great Britain. She was born on September 17, 1990. Jazz competed mainly in long-distance freestyle races. She represented both Wales and the Great Britain swimming team.

Jazz trained at the University of Bath. She won a gold medal for Wales at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. She also earned two gold medals for Great Britain at the 2014 European Championships and the 2015 European Short Course Championships. These wins were in the 400-metre and 800-metre freestyle events. Later, at the 2016 Summer Olympics, she won two silver medals in the same events.

Jazmin Carlin's Swimming Journey

Jazmin Carlin was born in Swindon, England. In 2006, she moved to Swansea, Wales, with her parents. Her family had Welsh roots. She moved there to train at the Wales National Pool.

Early Competitions

Jazz made her first international appearance at the European Short Course Swimming Championships in 2005. This event took place in Trieste, Italy. She did not make it past the first races in the 200-metre and 400-metre freestyle events.

In 2006, she competed for Wales at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Australia. She finished eighth in the 800-metre freestyle. She also placed third in her heat for the 400-metre freestyle. Jazz was part of the 4 × 200 m freestyle relay team that finished sixth.

At the 2008 European Short Course Swimming Championships in Croatia, Jazz was again eliminated in the early heats.

World Championships Success

In 2009, Jazz competed at the 2009 World Aquatics Championships in Rome, Italy. She teamed up with Joanne Jackson, Caitlin McClatchey, and Rebecca Adlington. Together, they won a bronze medal in the 4x200-metre freestyle relay. Their time of 7:45.51 was a European record at the time!

Commonwealth Games Medals

At the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, Jazz won two medals. She earned a silver medal in the women's 200-metre freestyle. She also took home a bronze medal in the women's 400-metre freestyle.

In 2010, Jazz was nominated for the BBC Cymru Wales Sports Personality of the Year award. This shows how well she was doing!

At the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Jazz had an amazing performance. She won a gold medal in the 800-metre freestyle. She also won a silver medal in the 400-metre freestyle. She was the first Welsh female swimmer to win a Commonwealth title since 1974.

Olympic Achievements

The 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio were a big moment for Jazz. She won two silver medals! These were in the 400-metre freestyle and the 800-metre freestyle events.

After Competitive Swimming

In 2018, Jazz started trying out Open Water Swimming. She competed in the European Open Water Championships. This event took place in Loch Lomond.

Outside of swimming, Jazz is also a qualified personal trainer. This means she can help others with their fitness goals.

In February 2019, Jazz announced that she was retiring from competitive swimming. She was 28 years old when she made this decision.
