Jazmin Roxy "Jazz" Carlin (born September 17, 1990) is a former British swimmer. She swam for both Wales and the Great Britain team. Jazz was best known for her long-distance freestyle races. She trained at the University of Bath.
Jazz won many medals during her career. She earned a gold medal for Wales at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. She also won two gold medals for Great Britain at the 2014 European Championships and the 2015 European Short Course Championships. Her biggest achievements were two silver medals at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio.

Jazmin Carlin's Swimming Journey
Jazmin Carlin was born in Swindon, England. In 2006, she moved to Swansea, Wales, with her parents. Her parents have Welsh family roots. She moved to train at the Wales National Pool.
Early Competitions
Jazz started competing internationally early on. At the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Australia, she swam for Wales. She finished eighth in the 800-meter freestyle race. She also helped her team finish sixth in the 4 × 200 m freestyle relay.
Winning Medals and Setting Records
In 2009, at the 2009 World Aquatics Championships in Rome, Italy, Jazz won her first major medal. She teamed up with Joanne Jackson, Caitlin McClatchey, and Rebecca Adlington. Together, they won a bronze medal in the 4x200-meter freestyle relay. Their time of 7:45.51 was a new European record!
At the 2010 Commonwealth Games, Jazz continued to shine. She won a silver medal in the 200-meter freestyle race. She also earned a bronze medal in the 400-meter freestyle.
Commonwealth and European Success
The 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow were very special for Jazz. She won a gold medal in the 800-meter freestyle. This made her the first Welsh female swimmer to win a Commonwealth title since 1974! She also added a silver medal in the 400-meter freestyle.
In 2014, at the European Aquatics Championships in Berlin, Jazz won two gold medals. She was the champion in both the 400-meter and 800-meter freestyle events. She repeated this success in 2015 at the European Short Course Swimming Championships, winning gold in both the 400m and 800m freestyle again.
Olympic Achievements
The 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro were a highlight of her career. Jazz won two silver medals! She earned silver in both the 400-meter freestyle and the 800-meter freestyle races. These were huge achievements for her and Great Britain.
Life After Competitive Swimming
In 2018, Jazz tried Open Water Swimming. She competed in the European Open Water Championships.
Outside of swimming, Jazz is also a qualified personal trainer. This means she can help other people get fit and healthy.
In February 2019, at 28 years old, Jazmin Carlin announced she was retiring from competitive swimming. She had a fantastic career filled with many medals and records.
